Thank you to all that donated for the purchase of the backpacks so far. The project is still active and we will keep the donation link open until the end of the month. So far we have been able to purchase backpacks and school supplies for 168 kids. The need in the schools in Ward 8 is so much greater! Let us just boost our efforts as we are getting closer to the project’s completion raise more for more kids this new school year.

Saint George Backpack project has been a great success thanks to our amazing community. Tomorrow Thursday August 13th we will meet at St George’s at 10am and car pool to Saint John the Merciful Antiochian Mission Church in DC. Join us for a day of service.
If you have not done so and wish to contribute the backpack project is still active and until the end of the month of August.
So we can support as many students as possible in Ward 8.

Saint George Sunday School and Mission Team, in collaboration with Saint John the Merciful Orthodox Mission Center and FOCUS North America, are holding a Back to School Backpack Outreach Project. With a minimum donation of $25, we will be able to purchase one backpack and supply kit for one student attending a school in underprivileged neighborhoods.
We invite the entire St. George Community to participate in this project. You may contribute in sponsoring a student’s backpack and supply kit by donating online towards the Sunday School Outreach Fund using the link below.

On August 13th, we will gather at Saint John the Merciful at 11am for an assembly party and then we will deliver the backpacks to a school nearby. Our Youth will be writing cards for the students during the assembly party. We invite you to join us in this event and be able to learn more about the SJM Mission Center, Father John Anderson and Presvytera Sabine’s work.

Being prepared for school impacts a child’s ability to fully embrace their education. If a child doesn’t have a backpack or the proper school supplies to succeed, this can lead to struggles with self-esteem, academic performance, and attendance. This is a very prevalent and unfortunate reality for the many children experiencing economic insecurity, poverty, and homelessness in America.

With Father Peter's blessing our Saint George Sunday School and Mission Team in collaboration with Saint John the Merciful Orthodox Mission Center and FOCUS North America are holding a back to School Backpack project.

With a minimum donation of $25 we will be purchasing one backpack and supply kit for one student.

Our GOYA had fun making memories on their traditional end of year OC beach trip on June 18th - taking time to stop to admire the sand sculptures of Jesus and biblical passages - a staple in Ocean City, MD.
