Bethel CT Pride

Bethel CT Pride Bethel CT Pride supports and celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community in Bethel and the Greater Danbury area.

Bethel CT Pride is a volunteer-driven organization that supports and celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community through events and programming in Bethel and the surrounding Western Connecticut area, as well as online. We center accessibility in everything we do to support the needs of as many people as possible. Bethel CT Pride was started in 2017 by a middle school student, who organized the first family-

friendly LGBTQ+ parade and celebration of its kind in the greater Danbury, CT area. The annual Bethel CT Pride Parade & Celebration provides a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate their authentic selves, especially students and families. Now, we also host events throughout the year including open mic nights, family craft afternoons, mutual aid events, plant swaps, book club, and more. Bethel CT Pride continues to grow and welcomes input so they can better serve the needs of the LGBTQ+ community in the area. The organization is fiscally sponsored by Triangle Community Center, a 501c3 organization based in Norwalk, CT, that provides financial management and administrative support for all contributions to Bethel CT Pride.

We know we just did this but it was so fun, we’re heading out again! Take a hike with an expert on mushrooms and learn to identify native mushrooms! Mushrooms can be difficult to positively ID, but our hike leader has 10 years experience on identifying native mushrooms.

This will be less a hike and more a stop every few feet to look at plants, mushrooms, and rocks. It will, however, be between 1-2 miles, depending on exact route taken, so may be too long for small children. If you’re unsure if the walk is too long, consider visiting for a casual family walk before the date!

We will probably find some summer mushrooms (if it rained) and late berries.

There are a few benches along the route, but they are unevenly spaced. Please make sure to wear sturdy shoes! Most of the walk will be in forest. Tick repellant is suggested. Make sure to carry water with you.

Dogs ON LEASH are welcome on the hike. Please only brings dogs that are okay with strangers and other dogs.

Use 160 Plumtrees RD in GPS to find the parking area. There will be a sign.

WEATHER DELAY: Light rain or mist will not cancel the hike. Mushrooms love damp! If we have heavy rain or other unsafe trail conditions, we will make sure to post a cancellation that morning.

YOU WILL BE ASKED TO SIGN A LIABILITY RELEASE WHEN YOU ARRIVE. While you will be being guided by an expert, if you choose to take things home and eat them, the risk is yours.

If you’re an open mic regular or have been to one of Bethel Pride’s foraging walks there’s a decent chance you’ve met Maggie.
