🚨 SUPPORT MORTON WEST ART STUDENT!🚨
ICYMI: Morton West school officials removed two works of art by senior Mariana Ramirez from this year's Spring Art Exhibition — after they had already been on display for a month. Administration labeled the pieces "politically charged," "pushing an agenda," and "too violent." Mariana's art depicted immigration enforcement and reproductive rights: two issues that cut to the heart of students at Morton, in a community where hundreds of neighbors have been torn from their families.
Mariana's work is bold, honest, and necessary. Removing it was an attack on a student's First Amendment rights — and it is part of a nationwide escalation of censorship in public schools.
It's worth noting that Morton's top administrators are known conservatives — including Superintendent Kuzniewski, school board president Jeff Pesek, and board member Sandra Tomschin. This is not the first time their leadership has suppressed student access to vital information. Last year, a school resource officer threatened volunteers distributing Know Your Rights flyers at Morton West dismissal — even as the school itself offered students no such resources.
The pattern is clear. And the community is watching. Show your support!
