Operation Breakfast and Blankets

Operation Breakfast and Blankets Started from the 2018 wish of an 8-year-old boy seeking Santa’s help to be kind to homeless kids and veterans. Today, OBB remains youth inspired and led.

OBB collects donated cereal and blankets to be shared with veterans and kids in need in Berks County.

Hey everyone!

It’s been a very very cold winter!

Many of us, like myself are lucky and are able to take shelter from this cold in our warm comfy homes. On the coldest days we can’t forget that lots of people in our communities don’t have a house or access to a shelter may be hard. Some people find they have to try and survive outside in a car or on the street.

We can help.

Join the OBB walking team as we support New Journey on their Coldest Night of the Year walk.

It is Saturday, February 28th in the late afternoon at Penn State Berks. We had a team last year and it was amazing.

I will post the link to join the OBB team.

I will be away February 28th so I am walking in solidarity a couple days earlier. Thursday, February 26th I will be doing laps and drinking some hot chocolate in between to walk in support of all the amazing things New Journey Community Outreach. This unofficial walk will he happening in my neighborhood if you’d like to join.

I hope you will come walk with OBB on Thursday, February 26th at 4:30 pm in Jefferson Township (there will be plenty of hot chocolate). Please join our team (or make a donation if you can) so together we can send kindness and tangible support to kids and veterans in need!

I hope you all have any amazing night.

Here’s the link to join the team and let me know if you have questions.

Hey everyone! Happy New Year!

On Friday Bella and I got to visit with our friends at Mary's Shelter delivering more cereal and blankets. We also checked in with Miss Robin at LIFE House Reading-Berks and learned they were in dire need of safety gates. We had $260 from cash and checks so we had a dozen safety gates delivered. I know that is beyond breakfast or blankets but Miss Robin’s text summed it up best the donation was “possibly life saving”.

Over the last month, OBB delivered 100s of cereal boxes and blankets to the good people at Hope Rescue Mission, Opportunity House, Mary’s Shelter and LIFE House.

All of it possible because of YOU!

I thank each and every one of you who donated and to all our great collection sites including our friends at Boulevard Dental Associates and RKL.

Every little thing helps and the operation couldn’t do it without you guys. We are starting plans for our April collection that happens during Child Abuse Prevention Month. PJs and cereal are how we spread kindness at that time.

Have a wonderful night!

PS Christmas Day we got to make a delivery to Opp House and WFMZ did an amazing job showing why “family” and sharing a meal matters. Watch the video.

On Thursday night at Opportunity House in Reading, Christmas feels like family.

Amazing just amazing are the good people and patients at Boulevard Dental Associates. Their kindness to kids and veterans is keeping the Operation very busy again this year.

By tomorrow evening hundreds of boxes of cereal and blankets will be in the hands of the amazing people who directly help kids, veterans and families like Hope Rescue Mission, LightHouse and LIFE House Reading-Berks.

We stil have lots more cereal and blankets to pick up from all the churches and the Tulpehocken Area School District and then we can connect with the good folks like Opportunity House and Mary's Shelter.

Everyone is showing Berks County is far more like Santa than the Grinch. Your kindness is so important.

Chance

Hey everyone. This memory popped up today. It reminded me the Operation has been going strong for 8 years and together we keep making a difference.

All the amazing people from the Tulpehocken Area School District and Bernville area always are kind.

Tonight you can bring cereal or blankets to the concert at the middle/high school.

We are nearing the end of the collection and so far my fellow students have not donated enough boxes (250) to make me show up to school dressed as Papa Smurf. Who doesn’t want to have a little fun (at my expense)?!

Hope to see you tonight.

So much joy in one room tonight. So many amazing and kind folks dancing and laughing and hauling in so much cereal and blankets.

Shout out to Valerie Makowiecki and Santa for letting me join the Zumba class. All the people reminded me what is best about the operation - being connected to people who care!

Hey everyone today is the day that all across the country people will show up and lay wreaths at the graves of men and women who served our country.

If you can’t be at a ceremony to remember and honor these amazing people that’s ok. I just hope we all can never forget how lucky we are to have people who served and sacrificed all for us and our country.

Let’s make sure no veteran or their family is without shelter or food.

Thank a vet, remember a vet, always be kind to vet everyday.

Hey everyone.

As you see in the colorful picture above I am trying to incentivize Tulpehocken Area School Districtt students and families to have me embarrassed, but all for a good purpose.

If we can collect 250 boxes of cereal over the next week, I will come to school dressed as Papa Smurf.

Why Papa Smurf?

For the first years of the Operation -many in those hard middle school years - I always wore this blue Tulpy tracksuit - always!

If you go back to posts in 2019, 2020 and beyond I always was all in blue. And so eventually my one friend started calling me Papa Smurf.

And I am not a fan of being known as Papa Smurf, but it is the perfect incentive for those who know me and those who don’t so we can have some fun AND collect LOTS of cereal for kids and veterans in need!

I hope you all have a great day.
