💛 LEGACY DAY 💛

The older I get, the more I realize that the things that last usually aren’t things at all.

They’re conversations.

Traditions.

Inside jokes.

The stories we keep telling.

The little pieces of someone that somehow stay with us.

I think about that a lot when I look at these birthday bags.

Because honestly, they’re not really about water bottles, joke books, bucket hats, or coloring books.

Those things matter.

But what matters most is what they represent.

A child feeling remembered.

A family feeling supported.

A birthday being celebrated during a season when life feels anything but normal.

Years ago, Joshua had a simple idea.

He wanted children fighting cancer to feel special during his birthday month.

That’s it.

Nothing complicated.

Just a kid who understood hard days wanting to make another kid smile.

So every September, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Joshua’s birthday month, we build Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bags for children in treatment.

And somehow, years later, people are still showing up to help make that happen.

Every package that arrives.
Every item donated.
Every post shared.

It all started with one boy’s idea.

And that’s my favorite part of this whole thing.

Not the numbers.

Not the milestones.

But seeing kindness continue to grow long after the moment that inspired it.

That’s legacy.

💧 WATER BOTTLE WEDNESDAY 💧

You all have absolutely blown us away these past few weeks.

Challenge after challenge, you’ve shown up.

And because of that, we’re now sitting at:

💧 78 of 150 water bottles 💧

That means 78 children already have one of the most-used items in their birthday bag covered.

Not bad for a simple water bottle.

The funny thing is, these probably won’t be the most exciting item in the bag.

They won’t get the biggest reaction.

But they may be the item that gets used the most.

To appointments.
To treatment.
To school.
To everyday life.

Sometimes the most practical gifts become the most important ones.

So let’s do what we’ve been doing best...

MIGGSY MONDAY MEMORY

One thing about Joshua...

He loved a good conversation.

Actually, that’s probably an understatement. 😂

That boy could take the simplest question and somehow turn it into a 30-minute discussion.

He wanted to know what you thought.

Why you thought it.

And then he’d have a thought about your thought.

And then another question.

And before you knew it, you were talking about something completely different than where you started.

I don’t think it was because he liked hearing himself talk.

I think he genuinely liked hearing people.

Their stories.

Their opinions.

Their experiences.

He was curious about people and curious about life.

Sometimes I’d catch myself thinking, “How are we still talking about this?” 😆

But looking back, those conversations are some of the things I miss most.

The random questions.

The rabbit trails.

The way he could turn an ordinary moment into a conversation you remembered.

And if you knew Joshua, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about.

Friday morning we launched our Joke Book Challenge with a goal of making a dent in the next 75 books.

By the end of the day?

You had donated 30 more.

That brings us to:

📚 105 of 150 Joke Books

Honestly, we’re blown away.

Every joke book that arrives will eventually find its way into a Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bag and into the hands of a child fighting cancer.

And if you knew Joshua, you know how much he would love that.

Because laughter mattered to him.

Thank you for showing up.

Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for helping us carry this dream forward.

This weekend, we’re tackling one of the most “Miggsy” items in the entire birthday bag...

😂 JOKE BOOKS 😂

And thanks to this amazing community, we’re already halfway there!

📚 75 of 150 joke books have been donated.

That means we only need 75 more to make sure every child receives one in their Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bag.

Now, if you knew Joshua, you know why this item matters.

While he was in the hospital, he had an ongoing competition with one of his nurses (Rachel) about who was funnier.

Jokes were told.
Laughs were counted.
Evidence was presented. 😆

And somehow both of them remained convinced they were winning.

Joshua loved to laugh.

He loved making other people laugh even more.

That’s why every birthday bag includes a joke book.

Because treatment days are hard.

Hospital rooms can be long.

And sometimes a laugh is exactly what a child needs.

So here’s the challenge:

💧 WATER BOTTLE WEDNESDAY 💧

It might seem strange that we’re putting so much attention on water bottles.

After all, they’re just water bottles.

Right?

Not exactly.

Treatment days are long.

Hospital stays are long.

Clinic visits are long.

And having something that’s yours matters.

A favorite blanket matters.

A favorite stuffed animal matters.

A favorite water bottle matters.

This year, every child receiving a Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bag will receive a blue water bottle with the Mighty Miggsy Foundation logo.

Something useful.

Something practical.

Something that belongs to them.

And honestly?

Those little things often become the things that travel everywhere with a child during treatment.

Real talk.

When people think about childhood cancer, they usually think about the big things.

Chemo.
Scans.
Surgeries.
Hospital stays(8 Months Straight for Joshua)

And those things are hard.

But what people don’t talk about are the hours.

The hours waiting for lab results.

The hours sitting in infusion rooms.

The hours spent in clinic appointments.

The hours spent waiting for doctors, medications, scans, transportation, discharge papers, answers...

Childhood cancer comes with a lot of waiting.

And when you’re a child, those hours can feel endless.

That’s one reason the Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bags matter so much.

Because every joke book, coloring book, game, water bottle, fidget, and activity is meant to help fill those hours with something better.

A distraction.

A smile.

A moment of normal childhood.

Sometimes that’s bigger than people realize.

MIGGSY MONDAY MEMORY

Joshua had a gift.

He could make a best friend almost anywhere.

School.
Church.
Hospital.
The grocery store.

Honestly, I think if you stood still too long, he’d adopt you into the conversation 😂

He had this way of making people feel included.

Seen.

Important.

He even dressed up on Halloween to hand out candy so nurses and techs could trick or treat at his hospital door.

And I think that’s one of the reasons these birthday bags feel so much like him.

Because every single one says:

“You matter.”

And that sounds exactly like something Joshua would have wanted.
