Miggsy Monday Memory

These two boys have my heart.

One is my sweet Joshua—our Miggsy. The other is Cade, one of those special young men I have been blessed to call my own. I watched Joshua grow into an amazing human, and for the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of being Cade’s pastor, his second mom, and one of the people cheering him on as he has grown into such a fine young man.

Sometimes the similarities between Cade and Josh are uncanny and heartwarming all at the same time. Their reactions, their humor, and the way they connect with all their friends can stop me in my tracks and make me smile. There are moments when Cade says or does something that reminds me so much of Joshua, and it feels like a small gift from God.

This summer, I had the blessing of spending so much time with Cade—from NYC to watching him serve as a Kids Camp counselor and then attending Teen Camp as a camper. I was able to be part of so many moments, and I will always be grateful for that time together.

This picture was taken ten years ago today at a Shorebirds game when our whole church, The River, went together. At the time, we had no idea how deeply our lives would become intertwined.

Cade’s family walked through the fire with us during Joshua’s journey. They stood beside us during the hardest days, and they have continued to be a light in the years since Joshua passed. Now, their family is facing a heartbreakingly similar battle. We wish they never had to understand this kind of pain, but we are so grateful that we can walk beside them with an understanding and connection that others may not have.

God has joined our families in a way that is heartbreaking, beautiful, and difficult to put into words. In the middle of circumstances none of us would ever choose, His grace has given us one another.

Ten years later, this picture is so much more than a memory. It reminds me that God was already weaving our families together long before we understood how much we would need one another.

These two boys have my heart—and they always will.

The Final 400

10 Days! That’s it! 10 Days left!

That’s all.

In less than two weeks, these tables full of books, games, water bottles, and activities will become 150 Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bags.

6 weeks ago, this was just an idea.

Today, because of this incredible community, we’ve collected over 1,100 items.

There are about 400 items left before Packing Day.

Not because we need more “stuff.”

Because we’re celebrating Joshua’s birthday by making sure children fighting cancer know they’re remembered during his birthday month.

If you’ve been thinking about helping...
This is the moment.

Let’s finish Joshua’s birthday project together.

One Birthday. Countless Smiles.

TWO WEEKS.

That’s all.

In just two weeks, these tables full of supplies will become 150 Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bags.

Every single one is part of the same mission...

To celebrate Joshua’s birthday by helping children fighting cancer feel remembered, celebrated, and loved during his birthday month.

When we launched this project 7 weeks ago, we had no idea what God would do.

Today, more than 1,000 items have already been donated.

And what amazes me most is this...

Even when we took a break from posting these last couple weeks, this community didn’t stop showing up.

Packages still arrived.

People still gave.

Joshua’s legacy kept growing.

Now we’re entering the final stretch.

There are just 420 items left before Packing Day on July 25 at Beach Bash!

If you’ve been thinking about being part of Joshua’s birthday project, this is your moment.

Because every item isn’t just filling a birthday bag...

It’s helping us celebrate a remarkable boy by passing his kindness on to someone else.

Thank you for making sure Joshua’s birthday continues to bring joy, hope, and smiles to children and families who need them most.

Let’s finish strong.

💛💙🧡

MIGGSY MONDAY MEMORY

As we get ready to leave for Nazarene Youth Conference this week, I can’t help but think back to Joshua’s first NYC in 2019.

Phoenix.

Thousands of students.

Powerful worship.

A week that became so much more than a trip.

One of my favorite memories was watching him unexpectedly meet one of his favorite Christian artists, Andy Mineo. The smile on his face said it all.

Looking back, I realize God was doing something much bigger than we could see. NYC wasn’t just an event—it helped shape Joshua’s faith and gave him a deeper sense of belonging in God’s Kingdom.

Joshua was one of the rare students who would have been able to attend NYC twice. He was already looking forward to Tampa in 2023 after graduating.

That trip never came.

Instead, Jayden attended as an adult leader in his honor. Together, we shared Joshua’s story through magnets and QR cards, and months later NYI USA/Canada highlighted his legacy of community and hope.

Now, six years later, life has come full circle.

This week, **Jayden and I are heading to Salt Lake City together as youth leaders**, praying over another generation of students.

My prayer is the same one I prayed for Joshua:

That they won’t just come home with memories…

They’ll come home changed.

Joshua may not be walking beside us this week, but his faith, his joy, and his legacy certainly will.

See you in Salt Lake City. 💛💙🧡

🎉 1,030 ITEMS!!! 🎉

I don’t even know what to say...

Just **four 5 weeks ago**, we launched our Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bag campaign with one big dream:

—Collect 1,500 items.
—Build 150 birthday bags.
—Celebrate 150 incredible children during Joshua’s birthday month.

Today...

**WE ARE AT 1,030 DONATED ITEMS!!**

🤯🤯🤯

That means we’re officially **over two-thirds of the way to our goal!**

Can I just say...

Look what YOU have done.

Every package that’s arrived on our doorstep...

Every Amazon order...

Every shared post...

Every prayer...

Every encouraging comment...

Every single act of generosity has brought us to this moment.

Sometimes it’s easy to look at what still needs to be done.

Today, we’re choosing to celebrate what already has.

**1,030 items.**

That’s not just a number.

That’s 1,030 reminders that kindness still wins.

That community still matters.

That one teenaged boy’s dream is continuing to bring JOY to children he’ll never meet.

We still have a few items to collect before **Packing Day on July 25 at Beach Bash**, but today isn’t about the finish line.

Today is about pausing long enough to simply say...

**Thank you.**

From the bottom of our heart, thank you for believing in Joshua’s dream and helping us remind children fighting cancer that their birthdays are still worth celebrating.

Now... let’s finish what this incredible community started. 💛💙🧡

💛 MIGGSY MONDAY MEMORY 💛

This week is MAD Family Camp week.

For our family, this place has always been more than camp.

It’s a place where we’ve worshipped together, laughed together, cried together, and made some of our most treasured memories.

Honestly, the best way I can describe it is this:

It feels like a little piece of heaven.

Every year since Joshua ran ahead to heaven, we come to camp and we hang this picture outside our cabin.

It’s one of my favorites.

Joshua is sitting in his wheelchair, facing our cabin, with that unmistakable smile that could light up a room. And if you look behind him, you’ll see the Tabernacle—the heart of camp.

That one picture captures so much.

The cabin where we made memories.

The Tabernacle where we worshipped.

The people who became family.

The place where faith grew deeper.

The place where laughter came easy.

The place where God met us again and again.

When I look at this picture, I don’t immediately see the wheelchair.

I see that smile.

The kind of smile that tells you he was exactly where he wanted to be.

Joshua loved Family Camp.

He loved the people.

The activities.

The traditions.

The late-night conversations.

The feeling of being surrounded by people who loved Jesus and loved each other.

This place gave our family so many gifts over the years, and some of our favorite memories were made right here.

So every year, when we hang this picture outside our cabin, it’s not because we’re holding on to the past.

It’s because Joshua is part of this place.

Part of the stories.

Part of the traditions.

Part of the memories that continue to be made here.

And every time I walk past it, I’m reminded how grateful I am—for this place, for these people, and for the memories we were blessed to make together.

A little piece of heaven.
💛💙🧡

🤯 YOU GUYS...

Can we just take a minute and celebrate this?!

Four weeks ago, we launched our Mighty Miggsy Birthday Bag campaign with a goal of collecting 1,500 items to build 150 birthday bags for children fighting cancer during Joshua’s birthday month.

Today?

🎉 We are at 977 ITEMS! 🎉

That’s nearly 65% of our goal in just FOUR WEEKS.

And yesterday alone, 39 more items were donated!

Honestly, we’re blown away.

Every water bottle.
Every joke book.
Every game.
Every activity.
Every package that arrives at the door.

It all adds up.

More importantly, it all helps create moments of JOY for children and families walking through some really hard days.

Sometimes it’s easy to focus on what still needs to be done.

Today, we’re focusing on what this incredible community has already accomplished.

977 items.

977 reminders that kindness is alive and well.

Thank you for believing in this mission.

Let’s keep going.💛💙🧡
