Statement from the Berkeley Police Department

We are sharing this message with deep sadness to inform our community of an isolated incident that occurred on January 27th, 2026 at intersection of St Charles Rd & Hillside Avenue in Berkeley, IL involving a 26-year-old woman.

Tragically, she passed away as a result of complications related to a fall and exposure to extreme cold.

There is no indication of any ongoing risk to the community. This appears to have been an isolated and unfortunate incident.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

We ask that the community respect their privacy as they grieve.

We remind everyone. If you see something unusual call 911 immediately.

UPDATE: As of 10:00 a.m., the water has been restored on Rose Court. Staff will be working on cleaning up the street and throwing down salt to prevent ice.

At approximately 6:00 AM the Berkeley Public Works Department was alerted to an active water main break within the 5700 block of Rose Ct. Staff is mobilizing to address the issue and will be knocking on the doors of those homes impacted by the necessary shut down for repairs. Once repairs have been made, water will be safe to drink but staff suggests running water through bathtubs to repressurize each impacted home.
