Hello! Its me again! As we find ourselves in yet another challenging time, A Place at the Table is working on figuring out how to support our parents and their children. For those of you who may not know it, I am a Principal at a school for students with special needs. I know the challenges all of you are facing and I know that virtual instruction is tough, even in the best of circumstances. I've been thinking about how to help support our parents during this time and I'm hoping you'd be kind enough to fill out a brief survey about how you and your kids are managing and what types of services might help for both general education and special education. Hi A Place at the Table team! As many of you know, I am a Principal at a school for students with special needs. We have a very young student who is being raised by her mom, a mom who adores her and is so devoted to her daughter's education and well-being. Mom was recently diagnosed with a serious health issue and has been in the hospital the past 6 weeks or so, missing her daughter incredibly who cannot see her due to infection issues. Today mom reached out to us to ask if we could possibly provide her with Walmart and/or Stop & Shop gift cards. My staff is contributing but I'm posting this here in case there are any Place at the Table angels that wish to help. Please PM me if you want to contribute and I'll let you know how to proceed. Thank you!

How do I match, you ask? I look at the size of the family and the request. Then I look at the list of donors and who is able to do what. Lastly, I look at the location. I think its always nice to be able to help someone in the town/state or area of the country that you live in. So far, I've matched people in NJ and Connecticut with people in their own state. There was also a match made between New Mexico and California families. Its not always possible, but I'll continue to try to follow that rule of thumb.

We've had a few more families enter our database this afternoon. I just matched a couple more and emailed the angels that want to help. As more families learn about our matching service and our generous volunteers and sign up, I'll be matching.

I have to figure out a way to get the word out that assistance is available to those who aren't receiving their paychecks from the federal government.
