Last week, our ladies spent the day shopping for professional outfits after completing a resume writing workshop and leaving with polished resumes in hand.

This experience was about so much more than clothing. It was about helping each woman feel confident and prepared as she takes the next step toward her goals. Whether preparing for a job interview, starting a new career, or pursuing new opportunities, having professional attire can make a meaningful difference.

Watching the women encourage one another, celebrate their choices, and step outside their comfort zones was a powerful reminder that growth happens in both the big and small moments. Every outfit selected represents confidence, determination, and the belief that they are worthy of every opportunity ahead.

We are proud of the hard work these women continue to put into themselves and excited to see where their journeys lead next. ❤️

Creativity and connection came together in Part 2 of Piece for Peace Art 🖼️

Participants continued their Piece for Peace Art experience in Part 2 of class with Alfredo Escobar, exploring creativity as a form of expression, reflection, and healing.❤️‍🩹

Through hands-on artistic work, participants were encouraged to slow down, be present, and express their thoughts and experiences through art. Each individual created their own unique piece, and together those individual works came together to form one collective artwork… symbolizing unity, shared experience, and the strength found in community. 🤍

For many Appalachian women, experiences like this also create space for voice, identity, and self-expression in a supportive environment, reinforcing that their stories matter and belong in a larger collective narrative.

The session was meaningful, creative, and centered on connection, growth, and peace. 🎨

This week, participants took part in Stop the Bleed training with Lloyd Jordison, gaining essential, hands-on lifesaving skills that prepare them to respond in emergency situations.

This training is especially meaningful in Appalachia, where rural geography and distance from emergency services can mean longer response times in urgent situations. In these moments, knowing how to control severe bleeding before help arrives can make the difference between life and death.

For Appalachian women, this training also represents something deeper: empowerment, self-reliance, and the ability to protect their families and communities when resources are limited or help is far away. It reinforces the strength that already exists in these women and equips them with practical skills that can save lives in everyday settings… at home, in their communities, and beyond.

The session was powerful, practical, and focused on building confidence, awareness, and the ability to respond when every second truly matters.

Tuesday was a day filled with learning, confidence-building, and community support. ✨

The women spent the day in Entrepreneurship Class with Ariana Jordan Maddox of Maddox Made, exploring what it takes to turn passions into opportunities and dreams into reality. Ariana also provided professional headshots for each participant, helping them step into their next chapter with confidence and a renewed sense of self.

Participants also enjoyed Geology Class with Suzanne Birner, discovering the fascinating stories hidden within the earth and reflecting on how growth and transformation happen over time, both in nature and in our own lives.

That evening, dinner was generously provided by the Richmond Rotary Club. Along with sharing a meal, they presented a donation in support of our mission, investing in the education, empowerment, and success of the women we serve. We are incredibly grateful for community partners who believe in creating opportunities and helping women build brighter futures.

Every class, every conversation, and every act of generosity reminds us that when women are supported, encouraged, and empowered, amazing things happen. 💙

✨ Healing Happens in Many Forms ✨

This weekend reminded us that transformation does not only happen in moments of reflection. It also happens in moments of joy.

On Friday, our June session participants explored the hidden gems of campus, taking time to slow down, connect, and discover the beauty that has been around them all along. What began as a simple walk became an opportunity to reflect on how growth often comes from being willing to explore new paths.

On Saturday, they spent the day at Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay. Beneath the laughter, roller coasters, water slides, and sunshine was something much deeper. These women have spent the last week doing courageous inner work, examining their stories, confronting challenges, and embracing the possibility of a different future.

Healing is not only about carrying the weight of what has been. It is also about rediscovering the parts of yourself that may have been buried beneath responsibility, hardship, and survival. It is remembering how to laugh freely, take up space unapologetically, and experience wonder without fear.

For many women, healing the inner child means giving yourself permission to feel joy again. To play. To dream. To believe that you deserve moments of happiness, not just moments of endurance.

This weekend was a reminder that personal growth is not just about becoming someone new. It is about returning to the person you were always meant to be.

We are honored to witness these women choosing themselves, embracing their worth, and finding strength not only in their resilience, but also in their joy. 💙

✨ Another wonderful day of learning, growth, and connection at NOSW! ✨

Yesterday our participants experienced a full day of empowering and enriching activities.

🧘‍♀️ The morning included a relaxing and restorative sound bath led by Abby Lee, providing a moment to slow down, reflect, and focus on wellness.

💪 The women also participated in a self-defense class facilitated by the Berea Police Department, gaining valuable skills, confidence, and knowledge to help keep themselves safe. A huge shout out to LT Cody Ocelli and Ofc Cody Jones

👩‍🍳 In the kitchen, Jennifer Escobar led an engaging cooking class where participants learned new techniques, built confidence in the kitchen, and shared a delicious experience together.

Every activity in our program is designed to support personal growth, build confidence, and create opportunities for women to discover new strengths within themselves. We are so proud of the courage, enthusiasm, and sisterhood being displayed throughout this session.

❤️ Thank you to Abby Lee, the Berea Police Department, and Jennifer Escobar for sharing your time, talents, and expertise with our June 2026 class!

🎨💜 Creativity, community, and connection were on full display during our June 2026 residential session!

Participants enjoyed an inspiring art class with Alfredo Escobar, exploring creativity, self-expression, and the power of storytelling through art. These moments of learning and reflection are an important part of the NOSW experience.

We are also incredibly grateful for the wonderful community members who helped nourish our participants throughout the day. Thank you to Tami Gentry, a 2016 NOSW graduate, for generously providing lunch and continuing to support the sisterhood of NOSW. We also extend our appreciation to P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and Kathy Simpson for providing and delivering a delicious dinner.

Every meal shared, conversation held, and lesson learned helps create a supportive environment where women can grow, learn, and thrive.

Thank you to everyone who helps make these experiences possible! 🌱✨

The first day is always filled with excitement, anticipation, and the promise of new beginnings. Over the coming 2 weeks, these women will build confidence, develop new skills, form lasting friendships, and discover strengths they may not have realized they had.

We are honored to walk alongside each of them as they invest in themselves, pursue their goals, and create new opportunities for their futures.

Please join us in welcoming our newest class and cheering them on as they begin this transformative journey. We can’t wait to see all they accomplish! 🌱✨
