The 2027 Michigan Black Summit is about more than conversations. It's about bringing people together who are making a difference in our communities and challenging all of us to do MORE!

We are excited to welcome Kimberly Guess Sims, Entrepreneur and Community Leader, to the 5th Annual Michigan Black Summit!

Why is this important?

Because Black entrepreneurship matters. Black leadership matters. Black women in leadership matter. And most importantly, making sure our communities have access to opportunities, resources, and economic empowerment MATTERS!

We cannot continue talking about the challenges facing Black Michigan without bringing people to the table who understand what it means to build, lead, organize, and invest in our communities.

The Michigan Black Summit is going grassroots!

We’re organizing a statewide Grassroots Organizers & Community Leaders Call because the 2027 Michigan Black Summit cannot just be about who we can reach from Benton Harbor. We need people connected to communities across Michigan helping us activate their networks and get people in the room.

Detroit. Flint. Kalamazoo. Grand Rapids. Lansing. Muskegon. Saginaw. Battle Creek. Benton Harbor. And communities throughout the state.

We’re calling on grassroots organizers, activists, neighborhood leaders, faith leaders, nonprofit leaders, union members, young leaders, community advocates, and everyday people doing the work.

This call is about BLACK ACTION.

WAS SCHOOL INTEGRATION REALLY BETTER FOR BLACK STUDENTS?

Integration opened doors to greater educational opportunities, but it also came at a cost. Thousands of Black educators lost their jobs, Black schools closed, and communities lost important institutions.

Here's the question: Did Black children need to attend school with white children to receive a quality education, or did Black schools simply need equal funding, resources, and opportunities?

Was integration a WIN for Black education, a LOSS for Black institutions, or BOTH?

From food deserts to culinary medicine, from access to healthy foods to addressing chronic diseases, Black health matters!

We cannot talk about improving the lives of Black people without talking about what is happening in our communities. Too many families live in neighborhoods where fast food is on every corner, but finding fresh fruits, vegetables, and affordable healthy meals is a challenge.

Food is more than something we eat. Food can be medicine, prevention, healing, and a pathway to healthier generations.

That's why I'm excited to welcome Camille Adams, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, to the 2027 Michigan Black Summit!

We are bringing healthcare professionals, community advocates, and leaders together to have REAL conversations about food insecurity, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, social determinants of health, and the importance of culinary medicine.

Our ZIP code should not determine our life expectancy, and our income should not determine whether we can eat healthy!

The 2027 Michigan Black Summit is about more than conversations. It's about solutions, connections, and BLACK ACTION!
