That reminds me that struggling mentally doesn’t make someone weak in faith. And what I love most is that God didn’t leave Elijah there. He stayed, cared for him, and gave him strength one day at a time.

Again. Right in our back yards! It’s so important to stay up to date on how the bad guys are communicating with our young people. We can help!

An investigation by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of a Lake Arthur man for a number of crimes.

Charles James Chiasson thought he was communicating with a young girl in Grant Parish. Chiasson traveled to Grant Parish to meet what he thought was a young girl, and was met by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office.

He also brought methamphetamine with him, to meet the child.

“The detective did an incredible job of investigating this case. This is a true predator and our communities are safer with him in jail,” stated Sheriff Steven McCain.

Charles James Chiasson, 56 years old, of Lake Arthur, was arrested for Computer Aided Solicitation for Sexual Purposes, Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile and Possession of Methamphetamine.

I am so happy for and proud of everyone who has walked through our doors that is on the walk through sobriety. You are in good company.

Yesterday marked my 30-year sobriety birthday, and I wanted to celebrate by sharing one gratitude for each decade.

1. My sobriety will always be the most important thing I do, because it allows me to fully love—and be loved by—the people who matter most in my life. I’m grateful for it every single day, even when it feels like a street fight.

2. Five years ago, a woman approached me in an airport and thanked me for writing about sobriety as a superpower. She said it helped her get sober. I’m grateful for all the people whose words helped me along the way. Before boarding her flight, she asked if I’d accept a gift from a stranger. I said yes. She handed me her first AA chip. I carry it in my purse every day. We were never strangers.

3. My favorite line from the AA Big Book reads: “That is the miracle of it. We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as though we have been placed in a position of neutrality—safe and protected. We have not even sworn off. Instead, the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us. We are neither cocky nor afraid. That is our experience. That is how we react so long as we keep in fit spiritual condition.”

Understanding and keeping in fit spiritual condition has been a decades-long challenge for me. I wrote about it in the final chapter of Strong Ground and I thought I’d share that full chapter with you today as a “thank you.” To read, go to the home page of brenebrown.com.

Today I am sober af and I am grateful. ❤️

This recent arrest in Grant Parish is a powerful reminder of why family communication and awareness matter so much.

We are incredibly grateful to the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office for their vigilance and commitment to protecting our children. Their work stopped a real threat before harm could occur.

While the child referenced in this case was not, the intent was real — and situations like this remind us that online safety, trust, and open communication at home are critical.

This is exactly why Renewing Paths offers the Strengthening Families Program for families with children ages 6–17.

This program:
• Helps parents and children talk openly — even about hard topics
• Gives families a shared language for trust, boundaries, and safety
• Strengthens relationships before problems arise
• Is for all families — not “problem kids,” not crisis situations

We’ve heard directly from middle school and high school students who say this program helped them open up to their parents in ways they never had before.

💙 The program is completely free thanks to funding from a Strengthening Families Program Grant from The Rapides Foundation.

🍽️ We provide family meals
👶 Childcare for younger children
🤝 A welcoming, supportive environment
⏱️ The only cost is your time — and your willingness to show up for your family

As parents and caregivers, law enforcement cannot do this work alone. Prevention starts at home — family by family — and we’re here to walk alongside you.

⛪ Churches and community groups: we can bring this program to your location.

Let’s work together to keep Grant Parish strong, connected, and safe.
