🇺🇸❄️ ACSA Riding Area Roundtable – June 5, 2026 ❄️🇺🇸

Today, representatives from snowmobile organizations across the country gathered for the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) Riding Area Roundtable. The room was filled with passionate snowmobilers and recreation advocates from New York to Oregon, all working toward a common goal—protecting and improving the future of snowmobiling.

The discussion covered a wide range of important topics, including:

🏔️ Working effectively with the U.S. Forest Service
🤝 Building partnerships with local tourism authorities
🔊 Legislative efforts related to noise regulations
🎟️ Trail pass programs and funding challenges
📜 The latest Executive Order regarding land use and motorized recreation
🛷 Access, management, and the future of snowmobiling across America

These conversations highlight the importance of national collaboration. While each state faces unique challenges, many of the issues affecting snowmobilers are shared nationwide. By exchanging ideas, strategies, and successes, we strengthen our ability to protect access to public lands and ensure future generations can enjoy the sport we all love.

Thank you to ACSA for bringing together such an engaged and knowledgeable group of leaders and advocates dedicated to the future of snowmobiling.

Together, our voice is stronger.

🏔️ Federal Lands Access Executive Order
❄️ What Oregon Snowmobilers Need to Know

On May 29, 2026, President Trump signed an Executive Order titled "Removing Unnecessary and Counterproductive Restrictions on Access to Federal Lands." The order rescinds Executive Orders 11644 (1972) and 11989 (1977), which have served as the federal framework for off-road vehicle management on federal lands for more than 50 years.

What does this mean for snowmobilers?

✅ There are currently no immediate changes to existing snowmobile trails, riding areas, closures, or Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUMs).

✅ Federal agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management will continue operating under existing laws, regulations, and management plans unless future changes are made through agency processes.

✅ The Executive Order directs federal agencies to review and potentially revise policies related to public access and motorized recreation on federal lands.

This action could have long-term implications for snowmobile access and recreation opportunities, but the full impact will depend on how federal agencies implement the order in the months and years ahead.

The Oregon State Snowmobile Association (OSSA) will continue monitoring developments and advocating for responsible, sustainable snowmobile access on public lands. We encourage our members to stay informed, participate in public comment opportunities, and continue demonstrating the stewardship that helps keep Oregon's snowmobile program strong.

Snowmobilers from across the US made a difference this week at the DC Fly-In!

Wow! It was a busy day on the Hill today. Lots of hearings, committee meetings, classified meetings and votes taken but we were still able to meet with U.S. Senator Mike Rounds and his Legislative Correspondent/Staff Assistant Will Van Camp at 5:45 PM. Senator Rounds explained the process the various bills ahead of them, including the Surface Transportation Bill, will take through all the various departments in the markup process. He is fairly confident the Surface Transportation Bill has strong support throughout Congress and approval is very likely to happen. He also asked us how the travel management planning for the Black Hills Forest and how the overall Forest situation was. As with our meetings with Rep. Johnson and Senator Thune’s visits, they were happy to hear our excitement for the changes being made with Forest Service and asked us to keep them informed with how things progress with the volunteer programs and other aspect of our relationship. Thank you Senator Rounds and Will for taking your time to meet with us. American Council of Snowmobile Associations
