THE FIRST POPPY OF REMEMBRANCE DAY SEASON
Today, across Canada, millions of people will pin a poppy to their chest for the first time this year. That small red flower, simple and fragile, carries the weight of every sacrifice made by those who served.
For two weeks, we’ll wear it proudly. We’ll stand for two minutes of silence on November 11th. We’ll say “Lest We Forget” and mean it in that moment.
But this Remembrance Day, I’m asking you to go one step further.
When you pin that poppy to your chest, think of Jess Larochelle. Think of him holding that observation post on October 14, 2006, with a broken spine, detached retina, blown eardrum, and severe concussion. Think of him fighting alone to save his company.
Think of William MacDonald running through a “hurricane of metal.” Think of Sean Teal carrying wounded soldiers through contaminated water under fire. Think of Patrick Tower crossing the kill zone twice. Think of all the Afghanistan heroes whose extraordinary courage has never been properly recognized.
This Remembrance Day, when you look down at that poppy on your chest, do something more than remember. Take action.
Sign Petition E-6661. It takes two minutes. The same two minutes you’ll stand in silence on November 11th.
We have 21 days left until the petition closes on November 20th. We need 20,000 signatures to ensure our government cannot ignore this call for an independent review of military honours.
The poppy reminds us to remember. The petition ensures we honour that memory with action.
This Remembrance Day, wear your poppy. Stand for silence. Then sign the petition.
For Jess. For all of them. For every soldier whose courage exceeded our system’s ability to recognize it.

Lest We Forget means nothing if we don’t fight for proper recognition of those who gave everything.
This Remembrance Day, add your voice to Petition E-6661.
