새해 복 많이 받으세요 Saehae bok mani badeuseyo (Please receive many blessings in the New Year)! 🎉

설날 Seollal is one of Korea’s most important holidays — a time for family, tradition, and fresh beginnings.

Families gather to perform 세배 sebae (a deep New Year’s bow to elders), share blessings and 세뱃돈 sebaetdon (New Year's gift money), and eat 떡국 tteokguk (rice cake soup) to mark turning a year older. Many also hold 차례 charye, an ancestral memorial rite, before spending the day playing traditional games like 윷놀이 yutnori and reconnecting with loved ones.

Across Korea, it’s a season of homecomings, gratitude, and starting the year with intention.

We hope you receive many blessings in the New Year!

One of the first things every villager does at Sup sogŭi Hosu is choose a Korean name.

Some villagers carry the same name year after year, while others choose something new as they grow and change through the language and culture.

As we get closer to Nametag Day, we’re collecting stories about Sup sogŭi Hosu names — what you chose, why you chose it, and what it came to mean.

Alumni, staff, and current villagers: we’d love to hear your story.

New to Sup sogŭi Hosu? Choosing a Korean name is one of the first traditions that helps villagers feel at home.

✨ Share your village name with us — in the comments, a DM, or via the link in bio.

Why Learn Korean?

Learning Korean is about connection, curiosity, and community.

Korean opens the door to a vibrant culture shaped by history, creativity, and global influence — from music and film to food, language, and everyday life. It’s a language that brings people together through shared interests and experiences.

At Sup sogŭi Hosu, Korean is learned through connection. You speak it while singing along to music, trying new foods, playing games, and building friendships with people who share your excitement for Korean culture. Learning feels social, immersive, and fun.

Whether you’re drawn to K-pop, K-dramas, travel, or global culture, learning Korean helps you connect more deeply and confidently with the world around you.

Learning Korean is learning how to belong — and have a lot of fun along the way.
