At the 3rd annual Our Voices Restored event on Saturday, October 3rd, come listen to Indigenous youth from across northern Minnesota speak about their engagement with the community and the direction of social change for our future. 🗣️ IT’S THE FINAL WEEK TO APPLY FOR THE 2026 OPEN ROAD FUND (ORF)!

ORF distributes $50,000 wealth-building gifts to Black descendants of the Transatlantic Slave Trade (14 and older) in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. These gifts are not reparations, but an opportunity to redistribute resources to our communities to build Black wealth.

If you haven’t yet submitted your application, we want you to know something:

You are worthy of this opportunity. Who you are, as you are, is enough. We may not know one another, but you are our people. City blocks or hundreds of miles may separate us, but we are part of the same community. We want you to be successful in all your endeavors, including this application. We want you to be successful in your journey to build wealth. And we want you to be successful in any project you join to create economic justice for Black people. I've been playing with the idea of offering nail training for quite some time now. When I graduated from nail school, I remember feeling completely lost and lacking confidence in myself and my skills. I reached out for guidance and mentorship within the salon environment, but unfortunately, the support I was hoping for was never there.

That experience has stayed with me throughout my career. It's one of the biggest reasons I feel so passionate about teaching today. I don't just want to teach nail techniques—I want to help build confident, capable nail techs who believe in themselves and their abilities.

My goal is to create the kind of support system I wish I had when I was starting out. I want my students to know that they're not alone in their journey. When they have questions, face challenges, or need encouragement, they'll have a mentor they can turn to.

This industry can be overwhelming when you're first starting, but with the right guidance, support, and confidence, success becomes so much more attainable. Helping the next generation of nail techs grow, thrive, and step into their careers with confidence is something that truly excites me.
