Today, the Belmont Fire Department held a ceremony to observe the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Current and retired members of the BFD, along with members of the Belmont Police Department, the BFD Color Guard, the Select Board, and Town Administrator Garvin attended.

On this day 25 years ago, 343 Firefighters, 72 Police officers, and 8 EMS personnel were killed; along with thousands of others. Still today, there are countless more who have suffered and died from exposures related to the hazardous conditions experienced during the recovery efforts that followed.

We wish to thank all who came to show their support during this solemn day of remembrance.

Last night the Town of Belmont’s Select Board unanimously voted to appoint Andrew Tobio as Interim Chief of the Belmont Fire Department. This announcement was met with thunderous applause as more than half of the department was present at the meeting.

Chief Tobio has earned the respect, trust, and support of every member in this department; and our union congratulates him on his appointment. We look forward to working under his leadership, and have full confidence that he will rise to the occasion.

Thank you to the on and off-duty members who attended last night, as well as the Town Administrator and Select Board.
