On the heels of an immensely positive, informative, and successful inaugural meeting, things have admittedly been a little quiet for the last two months. Now that we’re on the other side of the holidays and such, it’s about time that some updates were provided!
There were a number of suggestions, questions, and concerns about how this vision of ORV access in Whatcom County will be executed, both during and after the inaugural meeting. If you have reached out, know that you have been heard and that your voice will have an impact upon our path forward.
On that note, there is a lot of information and updates that I wish to bring to you all, but social media is limited in its capacity for detail. With this in mind, I will be creating an email list to provide a regular newsletter and generally aid with mass communication. Stay tuned for the sign-up for this email list.
It’s also about time to begin the process of finding board members for WORVA. There are many ways to contribute to this mission of ORV access in Whatcom County, but we cannot move forward as an organization without a board. You will all be informed when this application process begins and what level of commitment it will entail, likely through social media and that handy email list that I mentioned.
That’s all for now. I hope that you’ve all been riding and enjoyed January as much as I did! I’m looking forward to taking these next important steps of a long journey together!

I think we’re a bit overdue for an introduction. My name is Adam Phaneuf, and I live, work, and ride here in Whatcom County. Based on the initial responses that I’ve received, I’m not the only one who is passionate about motorized access in our region.

I created WORVA with the objective of providing an organized, collective voice for all motorized users in Whatcom County. Motorized access has a long, complicated history here. I intend to do my best to honor the strides that have been made by individuals and other organizations, rectify policy that has been predicated upon unfortunate conflicts between user groups and lack of stewardship, and provide a clear picture of what sustainable motorized recreation can look like here in Whatcom County.

We live in a place that many motorized users only dream of. We can find a way forward that minimizes environmental impact and works for everyone; hikers, cyclists, mushroom pickers, neighbors, and taxpayers included.

Again, it’s been exciting and encouraging to hear from so many people who feel so strongly about the current state of ORV access in our county, but the task that lies ahead is daunting to say in the least. I look forward to connecting and collaborating with all of you as we work toward establishing legitimate, sustainable, and well-managed motorized recreation sites in Whatcom County.

Why hasn’t ORV access been working in Whatcom County?

Many would blame trash dumping, illegal trails, neighborhood noise complaints, and unsafe shooting practices. However, when you open a gate with no plan in place, that is exactly what you’ll get.

This is a planning problem, and WORVA aims to solve it by advocating for comprehensive solutions that can make motorized access work for everyone, the environment included.
