“Currently, propane tanks are distributed weekly by outreach groups. These tanks are reportedly traded for s*x, drugs and other goods within the camp. Once used, the tanks are stripped of their fittings and discarded, leaching dangerous materials into the soil and wetlands. This isn’t just unsafe; it’s illegal and criminal behavior that directly harms our community and environment.”

Saturday, April 25 10:00am-3:00pm
Cordata Park, 4510 Cordata Pkwy in Bellingham

The Koma Kulshan Chapter will offer over 1000 native plants and 50 species for sale April 25 from 10 am to 3 pm at Cordata Park, 4510 Cordata Pkwy in Bellingham. This sale provides an opportunity for gardeners to source plants that are not always easy to find locally. While proceeds from the sale support our chapter programs and projects and the WNPS, we also use the sale to provide education to our community about the many benefits of native plants in personal gardens and the environment at large. A special component of the sale will be a guided native plant walk in Cordata Park at noon, led by a Chapter member.

A collision in Yakima County on Friday resulted in the death of three people, including two Cordata Neighborhood, Bellingham residents. The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. Friday, March 13th according to an incident report from the Washington State Patrol.

WSP reports Luis A. Martinez, 39, and Yajaira J. Martinez, 38, of Bellingham were driving east with their two children, a 6-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, in the vehicle. Both Luis and Yajaira died at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt, according to WSP. The two children in the Expedition, who were wearing seat belts, were taken to Yakima Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Danielle D. Reed, 35, of Kelso, Wash., was driving west in the Caravan with two female passengers, ages 11 and 13. The 11-year-old, Jayde Entler, also was declared deceased at the scene. While Reed was wearing a seat belt, WSP reports the two girls were not. Reed and the 13-year-old also were taken to Yakima Memorial Hospital for
treatment.

Three people died, and three others were taken to a hospital following the head-on collision Friday night.
