This should upset everyone.

This is unacceptable.

There are no services in this county that lead to housing in a time frame that helps anyone.

Homeless prevention is gone.
Children are sleeping in cars and in the streets and everyone just shrugs and says, "yeah it's bad"

As soon as the rent regulation vote in the state failed, our county should have done something themselves to protect us, it's literally their job.

A LOT of work needs to be done and there are some people in county council who want to do it now, which is amazing and late but welcome.
But there are 3 people on council who are an absolute oppressive, hateful barrier to helping people.

Please support any and all housing first solutions and any and all rental regulations or assistance.

Please do not give in to the fear and hate certain groups, individuals, county so called "leaders" and the whole city of Bellingham level at the homeless.

The only reason Bug and I are not going to be living in a tent at the end of the month is because of INDIVIDUAL COMMUNITY members keep us from living on the streets. I signed up for every single thing I was supposed to. I have a child and there was still NO SERVICES.

It takes an average of 2 YEARS to get into any housing services in this county.

YEARSSSSSSSSS.
Do you understand what two years on the streets does to a person?

To a child?

We need money, government oversight, community oversight committees and HOMES.
Now. Yesterday.
Call your council members and demand they be a solution not the problem.

Deaths through June this year are equal to all of 2022.

We're seeking food donations to stock our shelves, particularly items like boxes of mac and cheese, cereal, and other smaller wrapped snacks.

But here's where it gets even better - you can make an immediate impact by donating grocery store gift cards! These cards allow our care coordinator to take individuals to the store the same day they move in, empowering them to choose what they need and want. It's more than just food - it's about autonomy and the chance to build a relationship from day one.

Your contribution, whether it's a donation or a gift card, creates change and momentum towards ending youth houselessness.

Thank you for your generosity and support!

Port of Bellingham's decision to end ABC Recycling's lease on its waterfront scrap metal storage is good news for local water quality. Since 2022, the scrap metal pile had been on local agencies' radars after several water pollution infractions. While ABC began addressing some of these, it became clear they wouldn't be able to fix all the issues. Air pollution from unregulated metal dust was also a concern of many community members.

This is a perfect moment to reflect on what we *want* from Bellingham's waterfront in the 21st century.

As toxic sites from decades of former industrial activity are cleaned up, our community will undoubtedly see more proposals for new businesses, industry, housing and more. Much of the public input that agencies sought about residents' big-picture hopes for the waterfront happened nearly 20 years ago — Whatcom County, and the world, are much different now. We support a working waterfront that supports a local economy. But proposals must also protect the marine environment and human health, or else who is that thriving local economy for?

RE Sources has monitored pollution in Bellingham over 30 years, and in the last few years have ramped up science sampling of stormwater quality — data that no government agency is currently gathering. We both respond to emerging threats, like stopping the largest coal export terminal ever proposed on this continent in the 2010s, and rally the community to pass policies that prevent threats from arising in the first place. Efforts to update land use code, or incorporate climate resilience into local Growth Management Act policies, are not exactly as sexy as a campaign to stop a big polluter from coming to town. But that's the work RE Sources staff and our fantastic supporters know is essential: protecting what we love, while planning ahead to prevent future threats and working toward our vision of restored ecosystems and healthier communities.

An ounce of prevention, as they say, is worth a pound of cure. The continued diligence of this community and our staff is how we'll keep water (and air) clean for generations to come. Join us in working towards proactive protections!
