A fascinating take on Acquaint was just published in the Journal of Transdisciplinary Peace Praxis, written by our team member Yehuda Silverman, PhD. 💡
“From Dialogue to Ripple Effects in Peace” is an honest, in-depth article on our Global Conversations program where Yehuda applies his own experiences and reflections to his research.

One of our favorite quotes: “Peace can begin in online dialogue spaces and radiate outward into social relationships, civic life, and physical communities through sustained practice.” 🧡

Throughout the article, Yehuda shares the impact of appreciation notes – messages of gratitude that volunteers optionally share with one another following their conversations. He describes how they can be powerful tools of reflection and learning about ourselves, our relationships, and the practice of human connection.

But the article doesn’t just describe the successful parts of Acquaint. It notes its limitations, too.

Yehuda concludes with recommendations for intentionally designing technology that promotes peace and connection rather than eroding it, such as integrating reflections into digital dialogue and promoting cross-sector collaboration.

Of course, this post barely scratches the surface of the wonderful insights in this article.

🌍 What happens when we step outside our own perspective?

We learn. We listen. We understand. And sometimes, we see the world a little differently. 💬✨

Intercultural communication isn’t just about learning about other cultures; it’s about learning from people.

Which of these benefits do you value the most? 👇

🧠 Knowledge & wisdom
🤝 Mutual understanding
🌱 Personal & professional growth
💛 Improved relationships
🕊️ Conflict resolution

Doha's evening: instant noodles 🍜, blankets 🧸, and genuine laughter with friends. Sometimes the simplest gatherings create the warmest memories. 🥰

Missions are small, meaningful challenges to practice and promote human connection with the people around you. You can do missions solo or with a group, locally or virtually, on your own time. When you complete a mission, you reflect on the experience - and for group missions, we generate a shareable impact report celebrating what your team accomplished.

Some people stay in our lives. Some stay in our memories. And some leave us with a little piece of themselves that quietly becomes part of who we are. 🍁

That feeling when you reconnect with someone special and it’s like no time passed at all 🌍✨

Zain did Acquaint mission: “Reconnect With Someone You Haven’t Talked To In A while” and discovered that how some connections stay strong despite busy lives and distance.

Grateful to everyone who joined yesterday’s two Acquaint Get-togethers! 🧡 From Malawi, Mauritius, Iraq, Vietnam, Poland, China, Argentina, Nigeria, the USA, and many more, it was wonderful to connect across so many cultures.
While Acquaint usually brings people together through one-on-one Global Conversations, our Get-togethers create space for meaningful group discussions in small breakout rooms. Yesterday’s prompts; from treasured belongings to life lessons and comfort foods, led to thoughtful, genuine conversations.
One participant shared it was their first time talking with people from other countries. By the end, the chat was filled with ❤️ and messages of gratitude.
Thank you to everyone who joined from around the world, and to Katherine Mahon, Alex Szebenyi and Yehuda Silverman for helping make it all possible. 🌍✨

🚀 Big update: Acquaint Walks is now live on the App Store! So what’s next?

A second phase, where the goal is to figure out how a community like this actually grows: what makes walks take root in a neighborhood, spread, and last. We want to work that out in the open, and share what we learn with anyone trying to build connection where they live.

What we’ve seen so far is that the walks themselves work. The hard part is two things:
1. Getting the word out, and
2. Having enough regular walks ready so there’s something to join nearby for everyone.

So if you’re in King County, Washington, and want to be part of figuring this out:

→ Get the app and schedule a walk or join one that’s already scheduled. Once, now and then, or weekly. Every walk on the calendar is what makes this real. Start at acquaint.org/walks.
→ Want to do more? If you’d like to anchor a regular walk or help spread the word as an ambassador, fill out the form on acquaint.org/walks to leave us a note and stay updated.

A note for everyone outside King County: this is where we’re starting, but we plan to grow from here. We’re early and can’t support walks everywhere yet, but if you’d want this in your area, you can also visit acquaint.org/walks to fill out our interest form and stay up to date.

When did you last take the time to appreciate someone in your life? When was the last time you shared it with them?

After every one-on-one global conversation on Acquaint, volunteers have the opportunity to write an appreciation note for each other.

💌Without even knowing whether they will speak to each other again, many take up this opportunity to write moving, meaningful messages like Susan shares with Rachael.

It is a simple act. It doesn’t take much time, but it often captures a moment of pure good where one person truly wants another to feel happy and recognized.
