***FREE WEBINAR*** PFAS and Forever Chemicals in the Watershed

Join Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper and Dr. Carey Friedman and Dr. LeAnn Whitney from Maine Maritime Academy’s Corning School of Ocean Studies on Thursday, October 22, at 9:00 a.m.

Drs. Friedman and Whitney are investigating PFAS, often called “forever chemicals,” in Penobscot Bay and the Penobscot River. They’ll share what they’re finding in our local waters, explain the questions their work raises about marine life and the food web, and discuss what comes next in their research.

Join us TOMORROW Tuesday, September 29 at 6 PM at the Colonial Theatre for a special screening of "Savings Walden's World".

Why attend? This isn't just a movie. It is a blueprint for a livable future. Recently accepted for national distribution on PBS via NETA, this screening is a rare chance for our Belfast community to engage with these solutions before they reach a national audience and to support the Mabel Wadsworth Center in doing so.

Because the production and a significant portion of the filming took place right here in Belfast and across Maine, this is a homecoming as much as a screening.

What a great morning yesterday out sampling water quality in Rockland Harbor with the Maine Coastal Observing Alliance (MCOA)! Water clarity was pretty good (4+ meters in most spots) and dissolved oxygen levels were also healthy. Lots of guillemots were messing about and a fair amount of humans were also out sailing and puttering around the harbor.

Join us at our Meet the Waterkeeper Open House at the Little River Station in Belfast (285 Northport Rd.) from 4 - 7 PM TODAY, Thursday, August 6. Come for the whole time or pop in to say hi. We will be making some brief remarks around 5:30.

***Join us where the Little River meets the sea TOMORROW, Thursday, August 6 from 4 - 7 PM as we celebrate summer in Maine and meet the new Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper, Seth Walton, as well as other board and staff members!

We will gather here at the Little River Station (285 Northport Ave. in Belfast) and provide light snacks, refreshments, live music, and great company.

You are welcome to join us for the entire time or just drop in to say hi. We will make some brief remarks and hear from Seth around 5:30 PM.

While this is a FREE event, please RSVP below so we can plan accordingly. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Firefly officially launched yesterday!⚓️🌊

On Monday we celebrated all the hard work that the Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding boatbuilding team has put into Firefly over the past few years🎉👏. This boat would not be a reality without you and your dedication!

We’d like to give a big thank you to our funders, volunteers, and friends many of whom were able to join us for the splash. And a shoutout to Penobscot Bay Waterkeeper for their incredible toast and co-hosting the event with us and Lyman Morse. 🛶💧

We were honored to help launch Firefly yesterday. This boat, built by lyman_morse for our friends at upstreamalliance, is breaking technological barriers with first of its kind battery-powered propulsion. Firefly will undoubtedly inspire wonder and stewardship as she fulfills her mission to serve as a floating classroom on the Delaware River. Fair winds and following seas!
