We are a Veteran founded organization working to secure our non-profit status. Our purpose is to support veterans by being present and offering camaraderie.
Many of us are aware that 22 veterans per day are dying by their own hands. A green lightbulb went off for us! We saw the symbolism of Operation Green Light in November and decided to piggy back on the basic idea, but add physical and emotional support under that green light.
Using the structure of a monthly meeting of veterans, we could provide an opportunity to discuss common experiences and speak a common language. We simply wanted veterans to link up after their service and talk about what they did.
There is a historical reference to Operation Greenlight. It refers to a cold-war era mission to hand deliver nuclear weapons to high value targets. The special operations soldiers assigned to the operation were well aware that this was a one way trip as they were responsible for their own exfiltration.
After one meeting, we realized that we had touched on an idea that could have a real impact on veterans in crisis. One veteran was struggling with anxiety and another was experiencing grief. We had provided a Rally Point for after action review. This is our mission.
We have a goal of creating Rally Points all over the country where veterans can meet to support one another.
