Bedford Nonprofit Launches to Support Grieving Families
BEDFORD—There is a new nonprofit in town; local resident Sheena Santos and business partner Alexia Silva proudly announce the launch of a new nonprofit entity, Anam Cara Vacations Ltd. The organization’s mission is to provide families in need, who are suffering a loss and grieving, with a free vacation to aid in their healing.
Anam Cara Vacations Ltd., also known as “ACV”, was established to make a difference to individuals who are experiencing grief. ACV aims to focus on this group specifically, as society does not provide enough support for individuals going through a period of grieving. Many individuals do not receive paid bereavement leave, and most do not receive enough time to heal. There are simply not enough systems in place to support those dealing with a significant loss.
ACV provides no cost vacations to recipients through generous donations of rental home vacation weeks. Homeowners can choose to donate a long weekend or full week to ACV, to be gifted to a deserving individual or family. ACV also accepts other donations, such as gift cards and experience passes for vacationers to use during their trip.
Registration is now open and they are accepting applications to provide their first free vacations. ACV will be providing vacation recipients with trips scheduled for this Spring, Summer and Fall of 2025. Applicants must be New England residents whom have suffered a recent loss. The application process is confidential and the deadline to apply for the first set of vacations is May 1, 2025.
“We underestimate the importance of having enough time to heal when we are grieving,” says Grief Counselor and Vice President of Anam Cara Vacations, Alexia Silva. “The gift we can offer to someone who has experienced a loss is time in a tranquil location where they can rest, and ultimately begin healing. ”
