October 12th is Indigenous People’s Day, a day to honor and celebrate Native American Peoples. Join us this weekend for "Whose Land are We On?" Saturday, Oct. 10 12pm - 4pm, and Sunday, Oct. 11 & Monday, Oct. 12, 10am - 4pm. We'll explore a variety of stories written by Indigenous authors to learn more about Native histories and cultures. Take a closer look at a map of New England to see where the tribal territories overlay the borders that we know as our current cities and towns. Then, add a mark to the map where you live to find out whose land we are really on.

For thousands of years, Indigenous communities have used clothing as a means of communication and expression. Among the Wampanoag, dress over the centuries speaks to a story of cultural resilience and adaptation in the face of an ever-changing world. Now, visitors can experience history beyond the 1620s with the new exhibit, “Threads of Identity: Wampanoag Clothing Across Generations” located in the Craft Center.

This exhibit features work curated and created by Indigenous staff and Native artisans from across the northeast, demonstrating the continuity of cultural knowledge and practices today. Contributing artist Shaking Reed Designs of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation will be present in the Craft Center Saturday, October 10, and Sunday October 11, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, during Indigenous Peoples’ Weekend. Specially commissioned to create post-contact Wampanoag regalia, reflecting the incorporation of European trade materials, she will share her artistic style, inspiration, and creative practice with visitors.

Access to all Indigenous Peoples' Weekend programs are included with admission to Plimoth Patuxet Museums. For a full schedule of events, please visit: https://plimoth.org/events/indigenous-peoples-weekend-2
