Andrew was just 6 years old when he entered foster care after his parents lost custody of him.

Over the years, all four of his siblings found permanent homes before he did.

Then, at 10, Andrew was placed with Dominique and Kevin Gill in Nashville.

For the first week, he barely spoke.

Then their son, Joc, asked him to play video games.

That small moment changed everything.

The boys bonded over gaming, Pop Tarts and simply spending time together, and Andrew slowly began to come out of his shell.

Two years later, the Gills asked him a question he had waited years to hear:

Did he want to become part of their family forever?

Andrew said yes.

In July 2020, the adoption became official.

After years of waiting while everyone around him found a home, Andrew finally found his.

Dr. Umar is the only one looking out for black youth at this time; it's a sad truth, but we must be mindful of WHO we leave our kids with at all times, especially now. There is a genocide against all black babies, kids, and youth!!!! This was filmed a few years back, but sadly it applies more today than ever, with all the black kids and young folk found hanging, drowning, and being shot!
The system has failed us, and now we know only WE can save our kids by investing in them, nurturing them, and correcting them! They want to erase history so that they don't feel bad about themselves or their ancestors, but the truth is YOU are not all of your ancestors, only the good parts you CHOOSE to take and create a new narrative! I grew up in foster care and took all the good traits of mine, including those who left me in care!!! I am a better grandma, auntie (to those I am in contact with), because I faced the truth, not hide it or make it disappear.... I respect anyone who stands in THEIR TRUTH!
