We are a group of your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers, working to help change the status of global starvation permanently, beginning with groups of children in orphanages in destitute countries around the world. Specifically, we are a group of climbers in the Pacific NW brought together by a mission to bring sustainable food supply to children in need in various locations worldwide. Sum
mits For Kids exists for the purpose of utilizing raised funds to provide for (ie. funding & buillding) sustainable food supplies for orphanages, children's rescue facilities, and disaster-afflicted areas (locations where children are otherwise in need of nutritive resource), domestically & internationally. Defining "sustainable food supplies" as sources of protein-rich food, self-perpetuating with little maintenance required, examples of "sustainable food supplies" are Aquaponics Farms, Tilapia Farms, and Chicken Runs. Our objective is to produce these food farms with little to no infastructure required (ie. "Off the Grid"), by utilizing solar-power capabilities in conjunction with "low tech" methods of operation (gravity, greenhouse principles, etc), enabling us to help reach children in extremely indigent or remote areas. We will operate with a "teach a man to fish" mentality, in having local residents, wherever the project may be, aid in the construction & implementation of the supply, so that they are familiar with its intricacies and operation. The purpose of this method is to involve the people we seek to help, causing them to be more invested in the project, as well as saving resources required in labor. This also enables people locally to maintain & operate the project with less of a need or requirement for management from afar. Our first major project, in Zimbabwe, has been a tremendous success, and we continue to develop plans that will streamline a delivery system for producing aquaponics farms in a turnkey way in numerous other locations, in as cost-effective way as possible. We project a need of approximately $10,000 per project to produce a sustainable, green, off-the-grid food source from start to finish. Primarily funded through programs & fundraisers that surround, or involve, climbing, we additionally, raise funding for continued projects through public fundraisers & events.
