Meet Our New Urban Foresters! The Oregon State University Extension Service has hired two new Urban Forest Extension Specialists. Jennifer Killian and Sarah Low have been charged with developing a program to help with urban forestry issues across the state. They are busily gathering information and assessing needs to understand where there may be gaps in service to communities. As they decide how to best amplify and elevate others’ work, they are hoping to provide community outreach and education on urban forestry policy, making sure to provide help for communities that don’t have as many resources. These are part-time positions which need to be balanced with their half-time teaching load for Oregon graduates in the Forestry Certification Program. Welcome, Jennifer and Sarah!

To grow them successfully, choose a suitable container size and type, provide proper drainage, use a well-draining soil mix, and provide adequate sunlight, water, and fertilization. For information on how to care for a container tree, including container size and suggested trees for our area, check out this advice.
