In 1971, Beaumont didn’t just love football – it stunned the country with how many of its sons were playing on Sundays. At that time, 16 players from Beaumont and the surrounding Golden Triangle were on NFL rosters, a staggering number for a mid‑sized Southeast Texas community.

At a national gathering of U.S. mayors that year, Beaumont Mayor Ken Ritter proudly declared the city the “Professional Football Capital of the World,” pointing to that incredible concentration of NFL talent as his proof. No other city stepped up to challenge the claim, and the title stuck, becoming a badge of honor for local schools, coaches, and families whose Friday nights under the lights were sending players all the way to the Super Bowl.

Today, that announcement is remembered as the moment Beaumont claimed its place on the national football map, turning a local legacy into a bold identity that the community still celebrates more than 50 years later.

We'd like to thank BISD, Dr. Donna Prudhomme, Mr. Cormier and students for capturing and sharing this historical event. We greatly appreciate your time, effort and attentiveness.

We'd also like to give special recognition for the young men in this photo. When I told them how much we appreciated them for being there, they both said, "It's an honor to be a part of something so important."

BISD, we KNOW you're proud of these fine young men, and we'd like to let you know we're just as proud; they're not just "leaders-in-the-making," they're already outstanding leaders who are making us ALL proud!!

Thanks again for your partnership and support. We look forward to more opportunities to show the world, "Greatness Grows Here"!

🏈What is the Professional Football Capital of the World Museum Foundation (PFC)?

The PFC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the extraordinary professional football legacy of Southeast Texas's Golden Triangle region. Our mission is to honor the 100+ professional football players who have emerged from this remarkable area, showcasing their achievements and inspiring future generations.

🏆 Our Legacy

The Golden Triangle earned its title when it produced more professional football players per capita than any other region in America. This unprecedented concentration of talent led to the official 1971 mayoral proclamation declaring Beaumont the "Professional Football Capital of the World" - a designation that remains unchallenged today.

🎉 Milestone Achievement

On August 2, 2025, the PFC held its inaugural Pro Football Legends Gala at the Beaumont Civic Center, with Mayor Roy West proclaiming it "Pro Football Capital of the World Day." Over 300 attendees celebrated the foundational roster of 16 athletes first honored in 1971, demonstrating overwhelming community support for establishing a permanent museum in downtown Beaumont.

🌟 Community Impact

Historical Preservation: Documenting and celebrating over 100 professional football careers
Youth Inspiration: Connecting current athletes with legendary role models
Economic Development: Promoting tourism and community pride
Educational Outreach: Sharing stories of excellence and perseverance

🧭 Our Vision

PFC is committed to opening a world-class museum facility in downtown Beaumont that will serve as the permanent home for Golden Triangle football history. Beyond the museum, we plan to expand into youth programs, educational scholarships, and community partnerships that continue the legacy of excellence.
