These women don’t just hold titles on our board—they show up, lead, serve, advocate, and pour into this community in ways that deserve to be recognized.

Well Eduardo definitely came through SETX and stirred up the whole community for a minute. No lights, trees down, businesses closed, people sweating, everybody trying to figure out what was open, who had power, and where the linemen were.

But look at us now. ❤️ It feels like our community is almost back in action.

And if there’s one thing Southeast Texas knows how to do, it’s get knocked around a little and get right back up. Neighbors helping neighbors, crews working around the clock, businesses reopening, people checking on each other, and little by little the lights are coming back on.

There’s just something about watching a community come back to life after a storm that gives you a HUGE amount of hope.

SETX STRONG. ❤️

At some point Stacia left us unattended with her Zoom account, so naturally we took her picture, let ChatGPT give her a whole new hairdo, changed her profile picture… and then completely forgot we did it. 😂

UNTIL TODAY.

She logged in and was like WHO IS THAT?! 😭😂😂

Listen… one thing about us, we are going to have fun together. We work hard, things get crazy, and some days are just plain exhausting, but we are ALWAYS going to find something to laugh about.

But now that we’ve had time to really look at it… I think she needs to make an appointment and get her hair done EXACTLY like this because why does it actually suit her?! 😂 We may have accidentally done something here.

September 1st — the first day of Recovery Month. 💜

Before you look at anything else, look at her eyes.

That’s where the story is.

There is life in them now. There is peace there. Purpose. A fire that comes from knowing exactly how dark life can get and deciding that if you ever make it out, you’re going back for somebody else.

Heather Ramirez didn’t just find recovery.

She built a life around it.

She took the parts of her story that could have buried her and turned them into the very things that help her reach people today.

And her heart is especially drawn to the ones who are hardest to reach—the at-risk youth. The angry ones. The hurting ones. The ones acting out because they don’t know how to say they’re hurting. The kids people have run out of answers for. The ones who have heard what is wrong with them far more often than they have heard what is possible for them.

Because Heather understands something that can’t always be taught in a classroom.

When someone is stuck in a hole, some people stand at the top and tell them how to climb out.

Heather climbs down into the hole.

She sits beside them and says, “I’ve been here. I know how dark it is. But I also know the way out. Come with me.”

That is the power of lived experience.

Today, Heather is the Program Coordinator at Loula Foundation, but that title will never fully explain what she brings to this work.

She brings her story.

She brings the woman from 2017 with her every single day—not with shame, but with purpose.

Because that woman survived long enough to become the woman in the 2026 picture. And now, that woman reaches back for somebody else.

Maybe that’s one of the most beautiful things about recovery:

You fight with everything you have to save your own life, and somewhere along the way, the life you saved becomes a light that helps someone else find theirs.

Look at those eyes again.

That’s recovery. 💜

These photos are eight years apart.

Rachel and Josh in 2018… and Rachel and Josh in 2026. ❤️

There was a time when their story could have ended very differently. Addiction could have taken one of them. An overdose could have turned that first photo into one of the last memories their family had.

But it didn’t.

Their story led to recovery instead.

They made it to the other side of days they probably weren’t sure they would survive. They got the chance to grow, heal, rebuild, and make new memories. And today, we get to put a 2018 picture beside a 2026 picture and say LOOK WHAT RECOVERY MADE POSSIBLE.

During Overdose Awareness Day, we remember every person who didn’t get that chance. Every empty chair. Every family who would give anything for one more picture eight years later.

Talk about recovery without shame.

Because sometimes the person everyone is afraid they’re going to lose becomes the person standing in a photo eight years later.

Rachel and Josh are proof that the story does not have to end with an overdose.

Recovery is possible. Keep people alive long enough to find it. 💜

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember the lives lost—but remembering isn’t enough. We have to keep fighting for the people who are still here.

Carry Narcan. Learn how to use it. Narcan saves lives. You never know when you may be in the right place at the right time to give someone another chance.

Learn about medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Learn about harm reduction. Learn the signs of an overdose. Talk about addiction without shame. And please stop believing that helping someone survive somehow “enables” them.

You cannot recover if you are not alive.

Recovery does not look the same for everyone. Sometimes it starts in treatment. Sometimes with medication. Sometimes with a peer who refuses to give up. And sometimes it starts with a dose of Narcan and one more breath.

Every life is worth saving. Every single time.

Carry Narcan.
Use it when it’s needed.
Support recovery.
Fight stigma.
Keep people alive long enough to find their way home. 💜

We love what we do every single day. But some days remind us exactly why Loula exists. ❤️

There is just nothing like watching a newborn baby leave the hospital and go home to a safe and loving family instead of leaving the hospital to enter foster care.

Not because there wasn't a struggle.

But because somewhere along the way, a mom, a dad, or both found recovery in time. They did the hard work. They accepted the help. And people surrounded their family with support before it was too late.

THAT is what recovery can do.

At Loula Foundation, we don't just help people stop using drugs or alcohol. We help keep families together. We walk beside parents as they rebuild their lives, find stability, meet their family's needs, navigate difficult systems, and become the safe and loving parents they want to be.

Sometimes the win is a job.
Sometimes it's housing.
Sometimes it's reunification.

And sometimes the win is a tiny newborn leaving the hospital in the arms of family instead of entering foster care. 🥹❤️

Those are the moments that hit different.

Because recovery doesn't just change one person's life. It can change the entire direction of a family for generations.

One less baby entering foster care.
One more family given a chance.
One more cycle being broken.

This is Loula Foundation.
