Volunteers were invited to share a meal, talk about their experiences as a Reading or Math Friend, play games, and even exchange dessert recipes!

VIPS Family,
Today brings a flood of Giving Tuesday messages—thank you for taking a moment with ours. 💛

This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking for a simple act of support that can make a big difference for a child in East Baton Rouge Public Schools.

Every semester, teachers recommend 600+ students who are falling behind in reading and math. Many are one or more grade levels behind—but what they need most isn’t complicated:
a consistent adult who listens, reads with them, practices math facts, and believes they can succeed.

That’s what our Reading Friends and Math Friends do every single week.
And it’s working.

Last year:
📚 400+ students received one-on-one support
🤝 300+ volunteers showed up weekly
🏫 Teachers tell us VIPS volunteers give students the confidence and boost they need to make real progress

One teacher shared:
“My students look forward to their VIPS time every week. Their confidence has grown so much—they’re reading aloud with pride now.”

As we look toward 2026, our goal is to reach even more students—but we can’t do it without you.

Each semester, teachers across EBR recommend more than 600 students who need extra support in reading and/or math. VIPS recruits, trains, screens, and matches volunteers and community partners with schools to help these students—and the teachers who serve them.

We had such a fun morning at Wildwood Elementary where Sherman & Balhoff Orthodontics led 1st graders in a TOOTH TALK!🦷

Students learned about the importance of taking care of their smile and even got to take some goodies home to help them do just that! Thank you for investing in our schools!
