Thanks to everyone who supported Pickle for Parkinson’s!
Here’s a recap of our pickleball tournament:
*102 doubles teams competed and brought many spectators
*45 volunteers helped conduct the tournament
*67 players and volunteers participated in the Skills Competition
32 messages were posted on the Mission Board

More than $17,000 was donated to the Mission for Movement from players and our 30 sponsors.

All proceeds from the tournament will be used locally by the Mission for Movement to provide social engagement and exercise programs for people with Parkinson’s in the greater Baton Rouge area. An example includes the launch of the Hopeful Movement support group in north Baton Rouge on Nov. 14.

We appreciate everyone who contributed to a successful tournament with a special thanks to our host—The Legacy at Bonne Esperance.

Jennifer Marino is a physical therapist who has been practicing in the Baton Rouge area for the past 11 years. Physical therapy helps someone with Parkinson’s disease improve and maintain strength and mobility. Parkinson’s is progressive in nature, but there are multiple studies that suggest physical therapy can slow its progression.

Jennifer finds it rewarding to see how practicing small actions turns into big movements. “I love the moments when my patients gain confidence in doing things that help them achieve a more functional and independent lifestyle,” she said.

Sally Palmer was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2005. Three years later, she began coordinating Parkinson’s support group meetings. Along with her husband, she hosts meetings 10 months out of the year at the Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. These meetings usually have an educational speaker, which have included nutritionists, speech therapists, pharmacists and other resources for people with Parkinson's. The goal is to reach at least one person through these support groups and make one life easier. Learn more about Sally's mission at www.themissionformovement.org/my-mission-is
