🌎💚 Happy Earth Day from the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System!

Education has the power to shape a more sustainable future. When students are given the tools to explore science, nature, and innovation, they grow into the environmental leaders our world needs.

We are proud to support EBR Schools and invest in learning opportunities that inspire students to care for our planet and our community.

🌱 Let’s do our part to protect our planet today and every day. Together, we can create a greener, more sustainable world for future generations.

What do you want to be when you grow up? 👩‍⚕️👨‍🚒👩‍🔬

These students had the chance to imagine their future careers and explore the many possibilities ahead of them.

Moments like this may seem simple, but they play an important role in helping students begin thinking about their interests, talents, and the many ways they can contribute to their communities.

Workforce development starts early, and experiences that encourage curiosity and exploration help students begin to see the opportunities that education can create for their future.

Through community partnerships and innovative programs, the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System works to support opportunities that inspire students in EBR Schools at every stage of their educational journey.

What does investing in education mean for our community?

It means stronger public schools, more opportunities for students, and a brighter future for East Baton Rouge Parish.

In Louisiana, state and local funding per student still trails the national average, which can limit opportunities for learning and growth. That’s why the Foundation for the East Baton Rouge School System works alongside our community to help expand opportunities for students and educators across EBR Schools.

Through partnerships, innovation, and community support, we help bring additional resources to classrooms, support impactful programs, and create opportunities that help students thrive.

When our community invests in education, we’re investing in stronger schools, brighter futures, and a more vibrant Baton Rouge. 💙📚

🧬 Through the Star STEM Teacher Grants, innovative science learning is coming to life in EBR classrooms.

Usha Kamal of Woodlawn Magnet High School is giving students the opportunity to explore molecular biology through a hands-on genetics investigation funded by ExxonMobil Baton Rouge in partnership with the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System and EBR Schools.

In this project, students will use a cell-free protein synthesis kit to observe the processes of transcription and translation in real time, connecting DNA—the blueprint of life—to protein expression through visible fluorescence. By investigating how changes in DNA sequences (mutations) affect protein structure and function, students gain a deeper understanding of how genetics influences living systems.

This hands-on lab transforms complex biology concepts into an observable, evidence-based investigation, helping students strengthen critical thinking, research, and scientific communication skills while exploring careers in biotechnology and medical research.

👏 Join us in celebrating Ms. Kamal and the educators who inspire curiosity, discovery, and innovation in our classrooms every day!

🚀 Across EBR Schools, teachers are bringing creative STEM ideas to life through the Star STEM Teacher Grants.

Nikit LaCour of Scotlandville Pre-Engineering Magnet Academy is empowering students to explore environmental engineering through the project “Eco-Engineers: Water and Waste,” funded by ExxonMobil Baton Rouge in partnership with the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System and EBR Schools.

In this project, middle school students investigate local water health and environmental systems through hands-on field sampling, laboratory analysis, and engineering design challenges. Students will study water quality, microplastics, and aquatic ecosystems while exploring how agriculture, waste management, and pollution impact water systems.

Students will also take on the role of peer educators, designing interactive demonstrations and learning stations to teach visiting elementary students about water quality, environmental stewardship, and engineering solutions that help protect our water resources.

By combining real-world investigations with leadership opportunities, this project strengthens STEM knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills while helping students see themselves as environmental problem-solvers.

👏 Join us in celebrating Mr. LaCour and the educators who inspire curiosity, confidence, and discovery in our classrooms every day!

🌟 Every child deserves a place where they can play, explore, and grow—both inside and outside the classroom. 🌟

At our Early Learning Microcenters in EBR Schools, we see every day how important outdoor play is for our youngest learners. Safe, engaging playground spaces help children build physical strength, develop social skills, and gain the confidence that supports lifelong learning.

With the support of our community, we have the opportunity to expand and enhance these outdoor environments for even more early learners.

That’s where our community can make a difference. 🌱

With your support, we can provide developmentally appropriate playground equipment that helps our youngest students learn through play and discovery.

👉 Join us in creating safe, engaging play spaces for early learners. Donate today at www.foundationebr.org to help our youngest students thrive.

🚀 Through the Star STEM Teacher Grants, educators are bringing innovative learning experiences to students across EBR Schools.

Andrew Holmes of Glasgow Middle School is helping students become urban planners and environmental engineers through the project “Community Hero Parks Lab — Designing Data-Driven Pocket Parks with Math & Engineering,” funded by ExxonMobil Baton Rouge in partnership with the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System and EBR Schools.

In this project, students will design prototypes of community micro-parks that could be placed along highways, vacant lots, brownfield sites, or other available spaces. Using math, data, simulations, and engineering concepts, students will determine factors such as shade coverage, walking path sizes, tree placement, solar lighting needs, and how to budget a small park space.

By applying key 6th-grade math skills—including ratios, scale drawings, area, perimeter, graphs, and data analysis—students move beyond worksheets to solve real-world community challenges. This hands-on STEM experience helps students build confidence, strengthen critical thinking, and see how mathematics can be used to improve the places where they live.

👏 Join us in celebrating Mr. Holmes and the educators who inspire curiosity, confidence, and discovery in our classrooms every day!

🔧 When students are given the tools to build, test, and innovate, powerful learning happens.

Through a Star STEM Teacher Grant funded by ExxonMobil Baton Rouge, in partnership with the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System and EBR Schools, Courtney Hawkins is giving students the opportunity to design and code technology that helps protect wildlife and improve road safety.

Using LEGO Education Spike Prime kits, students apply engineering design and block coding to create automated prototypes that detect approaching wildlife and warn drivers. Through this hands-on project, students experience the real-world challenges of designing, testing, and improving their ideas.

As students troubleshoot structural designs and debug coding errors, they strengthen critical thinking, resilience, and problem-solving skills—key abilities that help prepare them for future STEM careers.

Join us in celebrating Ms. Hawkins and the educators who are inspiring curiosity, confidence, and discovery in our classrooms every day!
