The Consulate General of France in Louisiana, Villa Albertine, and Alliance Française of New Orleans invite you to discover the world of children’s literature in French, at the third annual My French Book Fest, held at the West Baton Rouge Museum on November 14-16, 2024!

My French Book Fest is a celebration of youth literature in French, and, for the first time ever, a portion of the festival will be held at the West Baton Rouge Museum in Port Allen.

On November 14-16, from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, the museum will open its doors to the public for events including:

- My French Book Fair
- L’Acadie s’expose, exhibit of art from the groundbreaking comic strip Capitaine Acadie
- Literary and cartooning workshops
- Concerts featuring traditional Louisiana music
- School field trips in French featuring hands-on activities (morning and afternoon slots available, please call or email to reserve)
Participation is free, but come ready to purchase books at the festival.

Doing improv (even in your native language) can be intimidating, so watching these French immersion students do it en français was very inspiring ❤️

This was just one of the many musical and theatrical acts that helped to raise $15,000 for David Cheramie’s medical expenses, etc. Sunday afternoon at Cité des Arts in Lafayette!

Merci beaucoup, Kirby Jambon and all the other volunteers/musicians/food and auction donors who helped put on this benefit.

The Lafayette/Louisiana French community is definitely a special one!

Toying with the idea of resurrecting the popular French Immersion Excursions I used to organize in my culture and tourism days before moving to Texas (we’re back in Baton Rouge now!).

These informal ways to experience and practice French in the real world served as fun community-building field trips (open to the public) around Baton Rouge and south Louisiana.

To create the immersion effect, the one main rule was that, for the duration of the event (usually a few hours or 1/2 day), participants speak only in French (even if you only know a handful of words or the phrase “Comment dire ça?” “How do you say that?” while pointing to something you want to know the word for).

We’d often partner with a French-speaking guide to explore an interesting local place or activity, and afterward we’d grab a bite to eat together.

In the past we did song workshops, toured historic homes, and even paddled Lake Martin and Bayou Teche en français.

One fun idea that came up recently at the Baton Rouge French Table was the thought of an ice skating outing this winter at the River Center.

Culture Campout promotes respect for diversity through intercultural sharing, Live Music, and arts and culture education.

Next year, the federal government is withdrawing federal funds to support children's literacy, learning media and French programming on LPB.

Quota International of Baton Rouge is sponsoring a fundraiser, "Eyes on the Ties," Thursday, Sept. 28, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at L'Auberge Conference Center to support these programs.
