Lee’s story was supposed to have a happy ending… but instead, he’s starting over.

Lee is a 3-year-old handsome boy who came to us in 2023 as a terrified stray, covered in fleas and parasites and unsure of the world. With time and love, he blossomed — and in September 2024, he was adopted into what we believed was his forever home.

Then we got a heartbreaking call.

Lee was brought to Animal Services as a stray. We contacted his owner, who said Lee had been with a sitter and would be picked up. That never happened. The owner never came back.

Now Lee is back in the shelter — confused, anxious, and heartbroken. After a year and a half in a home, he paces his kennel and cries for the life he lost. No dog should ever have to experience that kind of loss twice.

And the hardest part? Lee is an absolute gem.

He is goofy, affectionate, and full of personality. He loves being around people, gets along well with other dogs, and has the heart of a toddler — curious, sweet, and happiest when life is full and busy. He’s the kind of dog that makes you laugh without trying and melts into you the second he feels safe. Lee would thrive in an active, loving home with people who are ready to be his constant.

Lee didn’t fail anyone.
He was failed.

If you’re ready to show Lee what forever truly means, he’s waiting. ❤️

Update - well this was a first! We were outside on my porch doing intake vetting for two other dogs and their mom was strolling by! For the record, she does not live near me nor had we seen any pics, but we knew pretty fast that it was her. Her owners came and got her. She was SO excited to head home! We'll be getting her fixed as soon as the puppies are weaned. She is a sweetheart. Pic of mom enjoying a snack and waiting for her ride home in comments. There are sometimes weird, happy endings 😊😊😊 Happy New Year!

This is definitely one of the very worst days & hardest post of my life.

We had to say goodbye to the one, "The Man" that started it all for Sophie's Haven Primate & Exotic Animal Rescue.

Our beautiful Abou went to Heaven to be with his best friend, Dylan, this morning about 11:30 with his Daddy & Mom holding his hand & talking to him.

After x-rays, bloodwork etc. We found that he was no longer producing any red or white cells and had Bone Cancer and we had to make the very difficult decision to let him go as he was suffering and we didn't want that.

Please pray for us and his sweet girl, Mya as we try to navigate life without him.

RIP my sweet big boy until we meet again.

You are forever in our hearts!

This Baby Bonobo Just Became a Symbol of Hope
Meet Milumbe, a newborn bonobo at Cologne Zoo who’s already making a powerful impact.

In bonobo society, females lead — with empathy, peace, and strong bonds. But in the wild, their forest home is disappearing… and these amazing apes are now critically endangered.
Milumbe’s birth is more than a moment of joy — it’s a call to protect a species on the brink. 🌿
