Teacher Spotlight 🌟Meet Ms. Lark Yoder, our Upper School Music Teacher!
Raised in Teays Valley, West Virginia, she grew up surrounded by creativity, community, and a deep love for the arts. Ms. Lark Yoder holds bachelor’s degrees in Communication, Music, and English from West Virginia Wesleyan College, and is also a proud mom of two daughters who attend Great Hearts Harveston.
Prior to joining us, she spent her early career in education before moving into leadership roles in Human Resources, Business Operations, and Finance. After stepping in as a substitute music teacher, Ms. Lark Yoder discovered a new, meaningful vocation. When reflecting on when she first started at Great Hearts Harveston, she shared, "I reiterated that I was ‘just a long-term sub.’ However, the kids stole my heart, and I felt I stepped into my calling and have been teaching music since.”
As an educator, musician, and parent of Great Hearts Scholars, she enjoys our intentional focus on the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. “The emphasis on character formation alongside academic excellence immediately stood out to me.” Her favorite part of her role is guiding students as they discover more about themselves by performing confidently, deepening their understanding of music, or finding joy in creating something together. “Music gives students a unique opportunity to experience discipline, wonder, creativity, and excellence all at once.”
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Lark Yoder enjoys family time, coaching volleyball, and expanding her ability to play various musical instruments. In addition to being a vocalist, she plays the piano, flute, piccolo, and cajon, and is learning the acoustic guitar and violin.
Join us in showing our appreciation for Ms. Lark Yoder!
