Today we talked to the kids at Laura Irwin Elementary about their class projects for their story they get to put into the time capsule that will be buried at Basin Heritage Commons this summer! Things we asked them to include in their story: what life is like in Basin now, family life, things they love to do, and what food they eat. Also what do they think Basin will be like in 100 years? We talked about how they are making history and are the first ever in Basin’s history to bury a time capsule. We told them how important they are because they are sending a message to the future! And how is this burying a treasure that will be opened in 2126. To see the sealing of the time capsule come to the Lilac Days Celebration Kick-Off Party June 5th beginning at 5:30pm. There will be a BBQ, ribbon cutting of the mural, sealing of the time capsule and live music with The Man In Tan!
Having the children know how important they are in making history and communicating to the future is so important.
Our goal at Basin Heritage Initiative is for our community to understand the importance of our history, heritage and our future. That all our community members are an important part of that. To be able to share a sense of pride in where we live is so important. And it’s something we need to pass down to our young people.
