Wait…PERIMENOPAUSE can start in your 30s?! 👀

That alone deserves a conversation.

Because if you’re in your 30s and suddenly dealing with brain fog, changes in sleep, anxiety, exhaustion, or just feeling like something is different, perimenopause probably isn't the first thing that crosses your mind.

Why would it be?

For many of us, perimenopause wasn't part of the language we grew up with.

We heard about menopause. Maybe our mothers or grandmothers talked about “the change.” Maybe they didn't talk about it at all.

And THAT is where health becomes culture.

What were women taught to talk about? What were they expected to keep private? What did they quietly push through because that's simply what women did? And what information never made it from one generation of women to the next?

Now some women are experiencing these changes in their 30s and realizing there is a name for something generations of women before us may have experienced without ever having the language for it.

At Bartlesville Cultural Center, that's the conversation we're interested in.

Not just what happens to women's bodies, but the stories, beliefs, expectations, and generational silence that shape how women experience it.

📸 MEMORY MONDAY: Bartlesville, help us tell the story.

We’ve been going through old photo albums, drawers, boxes, and file cabinets at BCC, and we are finding so much Bartlesville history.

The problem?

Not every photo came with names, dates, or the story behind it.

That’s where we need you.

Ladies, we need to talk about PERI.

Because apparently, a whole lot can start happening to your body in your mid-30s to 40s, and many of us were given ZERO warning.

✅ Brain fog
✅ Words disappearing mid-sentence
✅ Sleep acting brand new
✅ Anxiety showing up differently
✅ Patience changing
✅ Your body changing

Meanwhile, you're still expected to work, lead, parent, be a wife, manage the house, show up, remember everything, take care of everybody, and act like you haven't walked into the same room three times trying to remember why you went in there. 😩

And here's the part that has us talking: Wait...aren't we still young?! 👀

What did our mothers know? What did our grandmothers know?

Why did so many of us only hear about “the change” that happens in your 50s?

What did they quietly push through that we now have language for?

And what do we know now that the women coming behind us shouldn't have to figure out by themselves?

So we're putting brunch on the table and having the conversation.

🎙️ BARTLESVILLE, YOU SHOWED UP!

We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the response to our Calling All Voices post! Between Facebook and our email, so many of you have raised your hands to help us bring Bartlesville’s stories to life, and we are EXCITED!

There are two of us working our way through the list right now to get everyone the next steps, so please be patient with us. We WILL respond to every single person who expressed interest.

And remember: you do NOT need voiceover experience.

We are giving voice to stories from all five wards of Bartlesville, spanning generations and decades. To tell those stories well, we need voices that reflect the people who make up our city.

Different ages. Different cultures. Different backgrounds. Different voices.

That’s the whole point.

So if you saw the original post but didn’t respond because you thought you weren’t “experienced enough,” or you think you missed your chance, you didn’t!

We’re building something special, and we’ll be getting to you!

🎙️ CALLING ALL VOICES!

We are looking for community members interested in doing voiceover work for the Bartlesville Cultural Center’s Oral History Room!

As we build this experience, we have numerous stories we want to bring to life. Some come from written records. Others have been passed down through families or preserved through secondhand accounts.

Now, we need voices to help us tell them.

We are looking for people of ALL ages and backgrounds. Children, teens, adults, and seniors. You do not need professional voiceover experience. We are looking for real voices that can help us tell these stories in a meaningful and engaging way.

Some recordings may be short. Others may involve narrating a full story or helping us bring the voice of someone from Bartlesville’s past to life.

🎙️ All ages, races, and backgrounds welcome
🎙️ Multiple stories and voices needed
🎙️ Recording begins January 2027

Right now, we are building our list of interested voices while we continue collecting, researching, and preparing the stories that will become part of the Oral History Room. As those stories are finalized, we will begin matching them with voices from our community.

We get this question from time to time, so here's the simplest way to explain it:

Bartlesville Cultural Center serves ALL of Bartlesville.

BCC preserves and brings to life the culture, oral history, stories, and voices that tell us who Bartlesville is. Every neighborhood. Every ward. Every generation.

Black history. Native history. Polish, Italian, German, and other cultures whose families came to Bartlesville seeking opportunity, including those drawn here during the city's industrial growth. All of these communities helped shape the Bartlesville we know today.

These aren't separate from Bartlesville's history. They ARE Bartlesville's history.

West Bartlesville Revitalization is specifically focused on West Bartlesville.

WBR centers the voices and vision of West Bartlesville and helps turn them into action through housing opportunities, small business support, redevelopment, public spaces, and thoughtful neighborhood growth. It is about what the West corridor can become.

So how do the two connect?

Placemaking.

Culture tells us what matters to a community.

Community voice tells us what people want for its future.

Placemaking uses that culture, identity, and community voice to help shape the places where people live, work, gather, and build opportunity.

Culture → Community Voice → Place → Opportunity

BCC preserves and elevates the cultural identity of our city.

WBR uses that cultural identity and the community voice of West Bartlesville to help shape the future of the West corridor.

Different areas of focus. One connected vision.

We aren't just preserving the stories of the places that shaped us. We're making sure those stories and the people who lived them have a voice in shaping what comes next.
