CALL TO ACTION: Don't Cut Maryland Film!

What is Happening

The Department of Legislative Services (DLS) is recommending the Maryland Film Activity Tax Credit be sunset after June 30, 2026 — eliminating it entirely!

At this week's Department of Commerce budget hearings, DLS will present this recommendation to the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee and the House Appropriations Committee. If they follow it, Maryland's film industry ends.

Your letter - sent by Friday, March 6, 2026 - can make the difference.

The Maryland Film Industry Is Not a Line Item. It's a Community.
What We Stand To Lose
• Thousands of diverse, skilled jobs - directors, crew members, performers, technicians, and support staff who built their careers in Maryland
• Millions of dollars in economic impact - every production drives spending across hotels, restaurants, vendors, construction firms, and small businesses statewide
• Student opportunity - Maryland film students depend on active productions for internships, mentorships, and career paths that keep talent in the state
• Business infrastructure — without the Maryland Film Activity Tax Credit, productions move to Georgia, New Jersey, or New York, states actively competing to win what Maryland would abandon

How You Can Help
Write a Letter. Make It Personal. Send It by Friday, March 6.

Step 1. Write Your Letter. Tell the committee members who you are, what you do, and why the Maryland Film Activity Tax Credit matters to your career, your business, or your community. Personal, specific letters carry far more weight than form letters. Legislators notice the difference.

Step 2. Use This Exact Subject Line. SUBJECT: DO NOT CUT THE MARYLAND FILM ACTIVITY TAX CREDIT

Step 3. Email All Committee Members. Don't just email the chairs - email every member of both committees. The full list with email addresses is below. Volume matters.

Step 4. Forward This Email to Your Network. Share with your friends, family, colleagues. Share with every filmmaker, actor, crew member, business owner, and film student you know. The more voices legislators hear this week, the greater the impact.

CALL TO ACTION!

The 2026 Maryland General Assembly is in session and there are currently two bills that affect the Maryland Film Industry.
Here’s one of them:

Link to bill: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VD1u_n2sy73xKTYsW-XTi-ghK1KXgwAF/view?usp=sharing

WHAT IT DOES: The Governor’s Administration and Department of Commerce seek to lift the current cap of $10 million each project may receive in tax credits. The annual program cap remains at $12 million.
