Reading Partners was awarded $1,000 from the Community Foundation Baltimore Teen Giving Circle on May 5, 2024 at University Maryland -- The group of teens focuses on the collective impact of philanthropic giving. The group, composed of local high schoolers, contribute to the circle on a regular basis and research the impact of local nonprofit organizations. The group votes on the nonprofits they choose to support. The giving circle is led by Kiera Caffrey, a junior at St. Timothy's School. Kiera modeled the Baltimore giving circle after other teen circles located throughout the US. Thank you to the Baltimore Teen Giving Circle for the positive change you are making in Baltimore!

Welcome to the Baltimore Teen Giving Circle! We are a group of 50 teens (and growing) from 9 area schools that hold quarterly meetings where we learn about philanthropy and have the opportunity to make an impact in our own community. We individually donate at each meeting and then pool our money together via collective giving to have a greater impact. We have established grant criteria as a group. Teen members of the giving circle have the opportunity to propose and present local charities they may be passionate about to receive our quarterly grant. After a Q&A at each meeting, a voting process among all members determines which organization will be the beneficiary of the grant.

Membership is $25 per quarter which will be donated in full to the selected organization. We have donated $4,000 in the last year.

Our grantees have included Baltimore Reading Partners, Baltimore Hunger Project, Ronald McDonald House of Maryland, the Maryland SPCA, and Blue Ribbon Project. Upon receiving our grant, representatives from these organizations have attended our meetings to educate us and share more about the direct impact of our giving.

We welcome any and all teens in Baltimore to join so that we may grow our impact, learn more about the needs of our shared community of Greater Baltimore, and have fun meeting others who want to give back. Please join us!
