Women In Transition At Women In Transition, Inc., we believe that no child in foster care should be left behind. Women in Transition, Inc.

was founded to assist teenage girls in foster care to develop and execute a plan to transition from foster care by age 21. This initiative grew out of the concern that many youth exit foster care un-prepared to live successfully on their own. We at WIT believe that no child in foster care should be left behind. Our mission is to promote a positive attitude towards transitioning from foster care to

independence in a safe and stable environment by developing the mindset that life after foster care begins while in care. “Invoking change through the renewal of Spirit and Mind.”
To accomplish our mission we hold a 16 week Transition Planning Course through the Transition Planning Institute annually in the fall of each year on a college campus, an 8 week Summer Economic Development Training Program and in 2014, we will offer Transitional Housing. Entry into our program begins with enrollment in the Transition Planning Institute, a rite of passage to young adulthood. Upon completion of the transition planning course, participants can apply to the employment training and transitional housing service areas. WIT will also provide our graduates with access to transition and emergency assistance funds.

Did you know: every 2.5 minutes, a child in the US is separated from their family and placed in the foster system?

This so-called child-serving system denies children the right to their own family, creates unstable childhoods, puts kids in places no child should live, and inflicts trauma that can last a lifetime.

We must push for solutions that prioritize keeping kids out of government custody, and provide families with the resources they need to stay together without unnecessary surveillance, policing, and separation.
