Baltimore Energy Challenge

Baltimore Energy Challenge The Office of Sustainability and the Baltimore Community Foundation partnered in 2009 to form the Baltimore Energy Challenge (BEC).

BEC works with community groups, neighborhood volunteers, students, and residents across Baltimore City to spread knowledge and resources to motivate individuals and communities to save energy and money. BEC began as a 9 month pilot in 8 neighborhoods across the city. The resources we provided along with consistent energy saving behavior on behalf of the participants helped communities reduce thei

r energy by as much as 12.8%. With this victory for Baltimore, we have since moved forward into 20 additional neighborhoods, communities of faith, schools, and citywide events to help residents of Baltimore reduce their energy bills and become more energy conscious. Participants reduced their energy bills by an average of 4.9%. In 2012, BEC worked with 9 schools across the city to help Baltimore City lower its energy use by increasing energy awareness and stewardship among Baltimore City's youth. This year, the BEC team is working across the city, with concentrated efforts in 10 schools and their surrounding communities. Staffed with an amazing Americorps team, BEC is here to answer any questions you have, help you find the ways to solve your energy problems, and connect you with resources that can help improve your quality of life and reduce energy use at the same time. If you have an idea for how we can get involved in your neighborhood, or if you'd like us to present a training for your community, call or email us to connect!
