If, as Aurora Levins Morales reminds us in Medicine Stories, “ecology is everything”—how do we elevate the importance of radical ecological feminist thinking? How can we develop the capacity to ethically receive the knowledge offered by plants and wildlife, as evidenced in the work of Robin Wall Kimmerer and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson? What will it take to ground our feminism in radical ecology? Through their research and writing, the speakers on this plenary gift feminist praxis a variety of lessons from the other-than-human human natural world that demonstrate our relation, that remind us how we are all connected.

They invite us to an engagement with ecological study that rejects Western logics of extraction, ownership, individualism, and speed. What has to be done—ideologically, structurally—to make space for this kind of feminist work in and outside of academia? The intention of this plenary is to offer perspectives and experiences that invite us to soften some of the hard edges that create resistance to engaging the other-than-human in our feminist praxes.

NWSA President Pabón is thrilled to host a conversation among E.R. Anderson, Executive Director of Charis Circle, Dr. Ra Malika Imhotep, Assistant Professor at Spelman College, and Dr. Melina Packer, Assistant Professor at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the opening plenary.

All are welcome to join NWSA for our collaboration with - Dr. Stephanie Tillman! We're diving into Trauma Informed Pelvic Examinations with an emphasis on Consent and Care ✨

Trauma-informed care, rooted in 1990s sexual assault survivor activism, challenges medical paternalism and advocates for true bodily and decisional autonomy in healthcare. Despite decades of advocacy, this approach remains misunderstood, including in sexual and reproductive health settings, where outdated practices often cause harm—even when providers follow accepted standards. This webinar will clarify how trauma-informed care, grounded in reproductive justice, feminist ethics, and q***r theory, is critical to safety and empowerment. We will discuss how patients can recognize and prevent harm by engaging with ethical language and asserting full autonomy in their care.
