Why does CSEA exist?

Because too many people are expected to participate in systems they were never taught to understand.

Jurors are asked to make life-changing decisions.
Victims are expected to navigate complex processes.
Communities are expected to trust institutions.

Yet education about these systems is often limited.

The Civic Service Education Alliance (CSEA) was created to bridge that gap through civic education, juror preparedness, victim navigation, and community engagement.

Knowledge creates confidence.
Preparation creates better participation.
Participation strengthens communities.

That's the vision.

I recently read about the growing number of “stop-out” students — individuals who step away from college due to life circumstances, not lack of ability.

It made me reflect on how important it is for institutions to create opportunities that keep students connected, even during challenging periods.

As I continue developing the Civic Service Education Alliance (CSEA), I’ve been thinking about how programs can serve a dual purpose — strengthening civic education while also supporting student engagement and retention.

There is real potential to design initiatives that not only educate, but help students stay connected to their academic and professional goals.

I’ve been thinking more about the concept of “stop-outs” — students who pause their education due to life circumstances.

What stands out to me is that the issue isn’t ability — it’s support, structure, and connection.

When people feel disconnected from what they’re learning, it becomes easier to step away.

That’s something I’m intentionally addressing through the development of the Civic Service Education Alliance (CSEA). The goal isn’t just education — it’s engagement. Creating something that feels relevant, structured, and worth showing up for.

When people have purpose, they stay.

I came across an article today about “stop-outs” — students who step away from college due to life circumstances — and it really stuck with me.

Over 38 million Americans have stopped out of college. Not because they aren’t capable, but because life happens. Finances, stress, family responsibilities, health… things that don’t get talked about enough.

Reading this made me reflect on how important it is to create spaces where people can reconnect with purpose, not just academics.

That’s a big part of why I’ve been building the Civic Service Education Alliance (CSEA). It’s not just about civic education — it’s about engagement, structure, and helping people feel connected to something meaningful again.

Education isn’t always a straight path. But that doesn’t mean the journey is over.

I’ve seen how important it is for people to understand systems and their role within them.

CSEA is my way of bringing all of that together.

It’s not just a program. It’s something I care deeply about getting right.
