Please take the time to read this information.

“Before TNR, cats showed clear signs of consuming wild prey, while after TNR and food provisioning their diets resembled those of indoor cats"

Our research provides the first isotopic evidence that Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and daily feeding of cat colonies can simultaneously improve cat welfare and reduce ecological impacts on wildlife, offering a rare win-win model for balancing compassion and conservation.

New Laws Bring Hope for Michigan's Most Vulnerable Animals

We're excited to announce that Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed two important pieces of animal welfare legislation that will make a lasting impact across our state.

Michigan's first-ever Pet-Friendly spay/neuter license plate (SB 106) is now law! Proceeds from the specialty plate will help fund spay/neuter services, helping to reduce pet overpopulation while providing training and support for Michigan's animal shelters and rescues.

SB 293 & SB 294, the Bond or Forfeiture bills, are also now law. These bills help ensure that animals involved in cruelty and neglect cases receive the care they need while legal cases move through the courts, preventing them from languishing in shelters for months, or even years, to the detriment of the animal's wellbeing.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Senator Dayna Polehanki for championing these important bills and tirelessly advocating for stronger protections for Michigan's animals. We also want to thank Governor Gretchen Whitmer for signing these measures into law and demonstrating her commitment to animal welfare.

Rocco, an African Grey parrot, was taken in by the National Animal Welfare Trust’s Berkshire center in 2018 after being found as a stray.

Because he caused trouble in the office by swearing and throwing his water bowl, staff member Marion Wischnewski took him home. There, Rocco became fascinated with her Amazon Alexa device, using it to play music and add items such as strawberries, watermelon, raisins, broccoli, and ice cream to the shopping list.

Wischnewski said she regularly has to check her shopping list and cancel the items he has added.

This mama cat went viral in 2026 after “adopting” an orphaned baby deer and treating it like one of her own kittens.
‎
‎She allowed the tiny fawn to stay with her litter, drink milk beside them, and sleep next to the cats every day.
‎
‎Soon, the little deer started following the mama cat everywhere as if he truly believed he was part of the feline family.
‎
‎The unusual bond surprised millions people online and became a heartwarming reminder that animals can show care and protection even across completely different species. 🐾💛
