Once again, our Parent & Caregiver Support Group was a success! 💚 More importantly, people were spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically fed.

What we do as parents and caregivers is HARD and incredibly REWARDING. But sometimes the hard moments can feel impossible and leave us feeling tired, overwhelmed, or even defeated. That is exactly why these groups are so important.

We need a place to check in with the people doing this work every single day—a place where we can encourage and empower one another, share our experiences, exchange valuable information and resources, and continue equipping ourselves to be the best parents and caregivers we can be.

I am grateful and honored to lead a mission that reflects something God has called all of us to do: care for children and families who need love, support, and community. 🙏🏽💚

Gabriel's Law, a bill named for 8-year-old Gabriel Fernandez whose 2013 death after months of abuse drew widespread attention to failures in the child welfare system, has cleared the legislature and is now headed to Gov. Newsom's desk for consideration.

"Gabriel's story cannot simply become another tragedy we remember. For years, I have carried Gabriel's Law because we have a responsibility to learn from what happened to him and strengthen the protections for children who cannot protect themselves," said Assemblyman Tom Lackey, who introduced the bill. Catholic Charities of Bakersfield is hosting September food distributions in Buttonwillow, Delano, and Bakersfield. This month's schedule includes a stop in Buttonwillow at St. Mary's Church, Delano at St. Mary's School, a CAPK Senior Distribution, and a Farmer's Market at the Catholic Charities office.
