The Mayor's Great American Cleanup High School Challenge is a friendly competition for local campuses to compete to have the most Great American Cleanup volunteers. The registered campus with the most volunteers will win more than $1,000.00, a trophy, and campus recognition on a perpetual plaque that hangs by the Mayor's Office. There is also a second place prize of $500 and third place prize of $250. All of this is possible thanks to an anonymous sponsor, Mayor Karen Goh, and Affordable Dental Care in Bakersfield.

Mayor Karen Goh created the challenge with KBB to encourage local youth to take part in the community through volunteerism. KBB Committee members select the winner of the challenge based on volunteer headcount. Participating schools, please select one (1) person to register as your volunteer crew captain for the event. Great American Cleanup volunteers for your campus may be students, staff, family members of staff/students, friends, and/or others wanting to volunteer in the challenge for a campus. The winner is announced during the Great American Cleanup Awards & Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
