Summer season resources are here! The 211info database lists more than 1,700 food resources, including food pantries, farmers markets, community gardens, fresh food distribution, summer food programs for kids, and Senior Farm Direct Nutrition Program assistance!

🎒 That’s a Wrap! 🎒

Today, the Baker City Backpack Program made its final delivery of the school year, and what an incredible year it has been.

Together, we packed and delivered ✨8,387 bags ✨ to local students:

•2,104 bags to Head Start children 👏🏻
•6,283 bags to K–12 students throughout our community 👏🏻

These numbers represent more than meals—they represent a community coming together to ensure that children have access to food when school is not in session.

This program would not be possible without the dedication of more than 50 volunteers 👏🏻 (from board members, church staff, students, to weekly packers and drivers) who give their time week after week, along with the countless donors, schools, organizations, businesses, and community members who support this work in so many ways.

Thank you for believing that every child is deserving of a little extra support when in need. Your generosity, compassion, and commitment have made a meaningful difference in the lives of hundreds of local students and families this year.

That might be a wrap for this school year—but the impact of your support will last far beyond today. Thank you for helping us fill shelves, pack bags, and care for our community’s children. We will see you next year!

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing community and BHS Leadership students & staff for supporting this year’s Peanut Butter Drive for the Baker City Backpack Program! Because of your generosity, kindness, and community spirit, we collected 665 jars of peanut butter to help provide weekend meals for local students and families.

From the individuals who donated a single jar to the businesses and organizations who rallied behind the drive — every contribution made a difference.

We are so grateful to live in a community that continually shows up for our students. 🥜🎒

Baker High School Leadership students are hosting the 3rd Annual Peanut Butter 🥜 Drive benefitting the Baker City Backpack Program.

Drop off 16 oz. jars of peanut butter at the Baker County Sheriff's Office through May 21st.

The Baker City Backpack Program is a 100% volunteer run community organization that helps provide food for the weekend to students throughout Baker School District 5J who experience food insecurity.

Every week, our food shoppers go the extra mile—literally—for our students. Traveling across Oregon and Idaho, Karen Kolb-Schoeningh & Judy Baker spend countless hours searching for the best prices, stretching every dollar to make sure we can support the increasing number of children requesting weekend food support.

Because of their dedication, our program can continue serving local students and families while making the most of every donation and resource. From early mornings to full carts and long drives home, their hard work behind the scenes makes a huge difference in the lives of children in our community.
