UHURU FIGHT MALARIA
Hello Friends of Uhuru,
I want to speak to you about something that matters more than football, more than donations, more than grades. This is about life and death. I don’t want to sound dramatic — but if these words grab your attention, then they have done their job.
Malaria is a deadly, preventable disease caused by Plasmodium parasites and spread by infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. It begins like the flu — fever, chills, headache — but if not treated quickly it can become severe: anemia, kidney failure, seizures, coma, and death. Symptoms usually appear 7 to 30 days after a bite.
Children under five are the most vulnerable. They have not yet developed immunity, and they bear the heaviest burden: about 80% of malaria deaths in Africa are children under five. Last year, roughly 481,500 children in Africa lost their lives to malaria. These are students, teammates, and futures cut short.
The heartbreaking truth is also a hopeful one: malaria is one of the most solvable diseases. We already have the tools that work:
Insecticide‑treated bed nets
Indoor residual spraying
Rapid diagnostic tests
Effective antimalarial medicines
Seasonal malaria chemoprevention
New vaccines (RTS,S and R21)
At Uhuru Football Academy, our mission is to protect the whole child — on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. That is why I am asking you to mobilize with Uhuru and become an advocate for malaria awareness where you live and work.
Here’s how you can help today:
Talk to your family, friends, and business associates about malaria and how preventable it is.
Share this message on social media to spread awareness.
Support organizations and local efforts that provide nets, tests, and treatment.
Encourage schools, youth groups, and community leaders to prioritize malaria prevention.
Making a difference starts with one person. I hope you will stand with UFA to protect the children we serve and the communities we love.
With gratitude,
Uhuru
