Firelands Fly Fishers is a fly fishing club that promotes the best practices and techniques of fly fishing, fly tying, casting and other related fly fishing topics. We are the local voice for organized fly fishing by maintaining liaison with other conservation and sporting organizations and with governmental agencies involved in fly fishing.

The "Only" Nymph

List of materials:
Hook - 2XL Nymph hook. Size 8-18. Sample tied
on a size 14.
Bead - Gold. Matched to the hook size. Sample
tied with a 7/64". 2.8mm.
Weight - Size .015 lead wire. Your choice, from
none to .025 wire.
Thread - 8/0 Rusty Brown thread.
Tail - Hen Saddle Patch. Speckled Brown.
Abdomen - Dubbing. "Whitlock SLF" Red Fox
color, or similar.
Rib - Gold Oval Tinsel. Size small.
Wing case - Peacock herl.
Legs - Pumpkin colored Sili-Legs, or similar.
Thorax - Same dubbing as abdomen.

Fish this pattern as an attractor since it has movement with the Silicon legs. Tie several in different weight using just the bead with no lead wraps or using different diameter lead wire wraps.

List of materials:
Hook - Standard Wet Fly hook, Size 8-14.
Thread - Danville size 6/0, Tan.
Head - Gold Tungsten bead. Size to match the
hook.
Weight - Lead wire. Size to match the hook.
Tail - Brown Hackle Fibers.
Abdomen - Light-Colored Hare Dubbing.
Wing - Pearl Hareline Ice Dub.
Thorax - Dark-Colored Hare Dubbing.
Collar - Natural-Colored CDC Feather

Hook - Dry fly hook. Size 12-18.
Thread - Black. Fine 8/0 for size 12 and 14. 12/0
for size 16 and 18 hooks.
Tail (optional) - Hackle barbs, Deer or moose hair
or hackle tips.
Body - Rear 2/3. Brown rooster hackle feather.
Body - Front 1/3. White rooster hackle feather.

Fish this pattern as you would any other dry
fly. The advantage is the full body floats high
on the water surface. The white front portion
allows the fisherman better visibility on the
water.

Hook - Standard Dry Fly Hook. Size 10 - 14.
Thread - Black. 70 denier.
Tail - Golden Pheasant neck feather.
Body - Peacock Herl.
Accent - Red Floss.
Wing - White Calf Tail.
Hackle - Brown Rooster Neck or Saddle feather.
