Avila Beach Junior Lifeguard Program ALOHA and WELCOME. The Avila Beach Junior Lifeguard Program is one of the finest programs for developing young watermen and women on the central coast.

Since 2001, we have provided kiddos with an unparalleled summer experience dedicated to teaching water safety awareness, building confidence in and around the sea, and looking at challenges as opportunities to BE and DO our best. The program has been running for the past 11 years. Founded by Russell Edwards, the program now hosts 200 junior guards from age 10-17. The program focuses on character d

evelopment and providing a rigorous curriculum including, paddling, running, swimming, outrigger canoe, first aid and CPR, and basic lifeguarding.

Have you heard of a Digitally Induced Dopamine Dump? It’s the brain’s response to overstimulation caused by excessive screen time—think social media, video games, YouTube, and more.

As the temps rise and the blue skies light up we want to remind ALL to be Safe— First, Last, and Always, when at the beach, lake, or pool.

This is the season when accidents can and do happen. Help your local lifeguards and EMS teams by,

1.) Following the 10 Safety Tips above,

2.) ALWAYS have eyes on your kiddos,

3.) Read the signs posted at your local lakes, beaches and pools,

4.) If in doubt about the recreational area you are visiting, speak to the lifeguard,
