Facebook Marketplace is a premium place to find a lot of things you may need for a backyard garden. I highly recommend cinderblock beds instead of wood. They will never rot. Some places will drop off totes if you ask, make sure they are food grade.
Try to get deep ponds for your cat tails and aquatics, the shallow ones can have temperature issues in summer time - or buy a large sheet pond liner.

Harming the planet isn’t just an environmental crisis—the Vatican says it is a “sin against creation and the Creator.” 🌍🕊️

The International Theological Commission has issued a landmark, 29,000-word document titled “Caring for Our Common Home: A Responsible and Fraternal Response to the Triune God.” Authorized by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández after presentation to Pope Leo XIV, the document expands on Pope Francis’s Laudato Si’ by formally framing environmental degradation as a structural and spiritual failing. It outlines how exploiting the Earth simultaneously ruptures our relationship with God, abuses creation, and harms our most vulnerable neighbors and future generations.

Divided into three comprehensive chapters, the text harmonizes theological teachings—from St. Hildegard of Bingen and St. Thomas Aquinas—with modern science like quantum physics and the Big Bang. Drawing on alarming UN reports regarding pollution, conflict, and biodiversity loss, it rejects both predatory exploitation and radical deep ecology. Instead, it calls for “situated anthropocentrism,” where humanity serves as humble stewards and custodians of the Earth.

The commission emphasizes that genuine ecological conversion requires both spiritual renewal and everyday practice—advocating for mindful consumption, the Benedictine balance of ora et labora (work and prayer), and cross-border interreligious cooperation.

Does viewing climate action through an ethical and spiritual lens change how we hold individuals and institutions accountable?

This is the basic setup I have for my gardens.
My 250 gal tote is also set up to provide water for my indoor gardens as well

1 - Rain collected from the roof.
2 - Flows through the filter barrel or is run off.
3 - Stored in Tote.
4 - Flows to pond when needed, or at capacity. Or is used indoors.
5 - pumped to cinderblock gardens.

I installed a water feature in my backyard many years ago, as Ive always loved swamps and marshes and wanted a bit of that close to home. When I started my back yard garden, I repurposed it as an extra outside storage unit for water to pump to the rest of my plants. I will get to that part later.

When I originally dug my small hole in the earth, I put a regular old firm pond liner in the bottom, filled it with rocks and mud and planted marsh vegetation in it. Cattails, it turns out is one of The Most versitile plants in the United States, being medicinal, edible, and having several features that assist with survival tactics.

Its one of my favorite plants in my garden and if you have the space or even a half of a barrel to plant a water feature for aquaponics, I encourage you to plant them. Well worthy addition to any garden.
